Headline from nypost.com: “Posh NYC hospital bills new moms $36K per birth — but throws in a Chanel gift bag for free.” New York-Presbyterian Alexandra Cohen Hospital for Women and Newborns at Weill Cornell Medical Center. “Say that three times fast,” as Sonny Fox used to say to kids on Wonderama. I expect the presidential race to be as nasty as can be. Headline from newsmax.com: “Amazon Quickly Yanks Tee: ‘Only Good Trump Is a Dead One’.”

Among today’s many celebrations, it’s Holistic Therapy Day. Given the news, the whole world needs it.

I hadn’t worn sandals in approximately 50 years. My toes have been itchy lately and spraying Lysol into my sneakers hasn’t helped, so I decided to experiment. When I took a header coming out of the elevator this afternoon, it was because I’d caught my foot on the covering workers had put down, without taping it flat, to protect the rug, not because of the sandals. Of course, there was an attractive woman on the elevator. I assured her I wasn’t hurt just embarrassed.

One of last night’s episodes of The X-Files on Comet, channel 2–5 on OTA in NYC, was a terrific takeoff on the Fox reality series Cops, X-Cops, first broadcast 2/2000. Playing an officer was Judson Mills, who has 69 titles under his name at IMDb. Here’s a quote attributed to him: “Change occurs when the pain of remaining the same becomes greater than the fear of changing.” Kudos, Sir. Photo from GI:

Fortunately, I decided to give my backup TV another try in terms of finding stations through my digital antenna. I clicked on the appropriate tab and 58 came up. I would like to eliminate about half but I’ve yet to figure out how to do it. The set was from our old house and the manual was MIA. Still, the signal seems to be stronger than the 50-incher I was using, bringing in a few more useful stations. I’d assumed it would be weaker since it’s probably a lot older than the other. The screen size is about 60% of the previous, but that doesn’t bother me. So far so good. It’s weird, though, that channels 7 and 11 don’t come in. Then again, I’m on the second floor facing the courtyard, so I should be thrilled I’m getting so many.

Ira told me one of the jokes he conjures. Anyone easily offended should move on. A woman enters a clothing store and asks for a specific skirt. The salesman reaches for a catalog. The woman says: “What are you doing?” The guy replies: “Looking up your skirt.” Thank you, Sir.

A break in the humidity — yay! Quality donations flooded the Anti-Inflation Book Shop on this gorgeous day characterized by a refreshing breeze that my exposed toes greatly appreciated. My thanks to the donors and buyers, especially lovely young Lana, who again overcompensated me, this time for a pictorial on dogs and Curious Sicilian by yours truly. Here’s what else sold: a Lee Ann Womack CD, V Is for Vengeance by Sue Grafton, Strike Force by Dale Brown, The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara, five books in Russian. Among the donations today were a couple of books in Italian. I believe this one translates as The Doctor of the Crazies. There is a 1919 movie of the same title. To my chagrin, I was unable to unearth info about the book.
