RIP actor Don Murray, 94. Born in Hollywood, he grew up on Long Island. He played high school football, ran track and sang in the glee club. He played semi-pro basketball. He studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Manhattan and made his Broadway debut in 1951 in Tennesse Williams’ The Rose Tattoo. His stage career was interrupted by military service. As a conscientious objector, he did not participate in the Korean War but was assigned alternate service in Europe, working with war orphans. His first film, Bus Stop (1956), opposite Marilyn Monroe, was a big success and garnered him an Oscar nomination for best supporting actor. There are 92 titles under his name at IMDb, a figure that does not include 25 episodes of The Outcasts, 33 of Knots Landing, twelve of Sons and Daughters, seven of Twin Peaks. He did numerous guest shots on popular primetime fare. Here are just five other films in which he appeared: A Hatful of Rain (1957), From Hell to Texas (1958), Shake Hands with the Devil (1959), The Hoodlum Priest (1961), Advise & Consent (1962). He also has seven writing credits and five as a producer. He was married to his first wife, actress Hope Lange, for six years, a union that produced two children. He was married to his second wife from 1962 until his death. They had four kids. Well done, Sir. Thank you. Photo from Google Images:

Enterprising young turk, headline from nypost.com: “Drug dealer offers ‘free samples’ of cocaine stapled to business cards.”

This should go over big — pun intended. From NYP: “Airline says it will start weighing passengers in addition to baggage to calculate ‘flight balance’.”

From an NYP article by David Propper, here are license place tags rejected by the DMV: TREESOM3, ORG8ZM, CALLGIRL, F4RTBOX, JANKYAF (?), DUCKMEE, NICEBUNZ, DEZNUUTZ, FQBIDEN, SW1FT1E, MYSPACE, S1XPACK. For those with money to burn, personalized plates cost $60 upfront, followed by a recurring $31.25 every year.

A grasp of the obvious. Headline from foxnews.com: “Special counsel report finds Biden ‘willfully’ kept classified docs, calls him ‘elderly’ with ‘poor memory’.” That won’t fly regarding Trump. Few would keep up with his schedule. Photo from GI:

With age the dumb things one does mount. Last night I inadvertently turned off the power to my internet connection when my right big toe hit the switch on the surge protector. I realized it when the nearby lamp wouldn’t light. This morning I was pissed that Windows Music Player didn’t recognize the CD I’d popped into the machine. It was upside down. Double duh!

Music ruled at the Anti-Inflation Book Shop on this gorgeous day. My thanks to Crazy Joe, Sam and the lovely young woman who donated books, and to Cabbie, who did a swap of paperback thrillers; and to The Quiet Man, who returned to clean out the rest of the CDs; and to the Gentleman who bought a vinyl LP collection of Billie Holliday’s best; and to Andy F-Bomb, who took home vinyl LPs of South Pacific and a collaboration between Isaac Hayes and Millie Jackson, not talking ‘bout Shaft but we can still dig it.
