Not Foolin’

What an April Fool’s Day this is. There are many who should be wearing the caps and bells, especially in politics and the mainstream media.

On my morning walk I’ve taken to the street to avoid others, passing along the rows of cars instead of on the sidewalk… Dr. Fauci is skeptical of hydroxychloroquine, Dr. Oz says he would administer it to family and friends. If I had a major case of Corona, I’d want the option available… There have been warnings not to use ibuprofen to treat the virus. I’ve read that some who have died had high concentrations of it in their systems. Last night I had neck pain. Not knowing whether I’m a carrier or not, I resisted the temptation to treat it with my go-to painkiller. Fortunately the pain didn’t cost me any sleep and it is almost gone this morning… According to an article at nypost.com, sales of alcoholic beverages have risen 55% in the week ending March 21st, spirits 75%, wine 66%, beer 42%. It’s not surprising. I hope it’s not the same regarding hard drugs… Here’s today’s candidate for the Alfred E. Newman “What, me worry” award, from a headline at foxnews.com: “California emergency manager admits sunbathing on empty beach.”… And at the opposite end of the spectrum, a heroic act, also from a FN headline: “DJ with terminal cancer and coronavirus told doctors to ‘save someone else.’” His name was Liam Downing and he was only 30. He lived in the UK. RIP, sir. Here he is:

Here’s a wow story even for someone as indifferent to animals as I, from FN, edited by yours truly: Drug kingpin Pablo Escobar imported four hippos from America in 1981 for a private zoo at his hacienda near Medellín, Colombia. After his empire collapsed, the animals escaped and have been breeding in the wild ever since and now number 80 or more. Scientists speculate that river habitats may benefit from the presence of the non-native species, filling an ecological niche that has been vacant in the region for thousands of years. As big herbivorous animals vanished, their absence starved the soil of nutrients, altered plant growth and even affected water flow and availability. Unwittingly, a man who damaged so many lives did something good. Life never ceases to fascinate.

Also from an article at FN: the FBI has received multiple reports of video-teleconferences — and in some cases, online classrooms — being disrupted by pornographic, hateful images or threatening language. There’s a term for such hacks— “zoombombing.”

Bob Dylan has released a song, Murder Most Foul, on the JFK assassination. It’s almost 17 minutes long. Trouble is, the three accompanying videos at youtube, two of which flash the lyrics, feature a frozen image. I hope someone posts one with multiple photos. I haven’t gotten past the first two minutes. I suppose I should just close my eyes and listen to the master storyteller. Surprisingly, his vocal is not as scratchy as the rest of his have been the past decade.
