Our national curse strikes again. And the politicking resumes. Stats vary but each day more than 300 people are struck by gunshots across America. More than 100 die. A significant percentage are suicides or accidental deaths. What is the solution to this epidemic? I have no idea and, from what I hear, no one else does either.

Headline from nypost.com out of the Bronx: “DA calls on rappers to stop encouraging shootings after gang bust.”… Excerpt from NYP editorial: “From 2016 to 2020, blacks nationally were twice as likely to commit a hate crime as whites.”

Sub-headline from NYP: “A total of 61,728 New York State residents switched to Florida licenses last year — a figure that will be surpassed in 2022 if current trends persist.” Excelsior!

Also from NYP: “Sussmann’s defense that he was acting in ‘patriotic’ good faith is laughable.” No doubt all those who worked to derail Trump consider themselves patriots, which brings to mind a quote from Samuel Johnson: “Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel.”

NYP: “Russia loses highest-ranking fighter pilot yet in Ukraine war.” Shot down by a ground missile, 13th general killed in the war.

NYP: Laugh or cry? “California gas prices in some areas are higher than federal minimum wage.”

My thanks to the couple who delivered a number of cook books, and to all those who combined to buy a slew of items in Russian; and to The Quiet Man, who bought two works of non-fiction: A Night to Remember: The Classic Account of the Final Hours of the Titanic by Walter Lord, and Fighting Eagles: the Daring Exploits of America’s Great Air Aces by Phil Hirsch; and to the young man who purchased American Gods by Neil Gaiman; and to Nadine, who took home The Cruisers by Walter Dean Myers; and to the gentleman who selected The Joy of Cooking by Irma S. Rombauer, Marion Rombauer Becker, et al..
