Numerology & More
Last night the Comet channel, 2–5 on OTA in NYC, aired one of my favorite episodes of The X-Files, Improbable, from the much-maligned season nine. It stars Burt Reynolds, at his best, as God, who uses his love of numbers to help the agents find a serial killer. Mulder is MIA. Scully, Doggett and Reyes crack the case. It is a far-fetched, whimsical joy. I love it so much I refuse to think about the gigantic holes that seem to be in the plot. Then again, the series is much about the unexplained. In the opening credits, the phrase “The Truth Is Out There” is replaced by “Dio Ti Ama” (God Loves You in Italian), one of several languages featured during the episode. Photo from Google Images. This morning I calculated my Numerology number. It’s five. The skeptical Scully’s is a highly evolved nine, as fans would expect. I once did the I Ching and have forgotten everything I uncovered. I Googled for further enlightenment on Numerology and here’s what came up, edited by yours truly with added commentary:
“…the number 5 is associated with the planet Mercury and is considered lucky.” I’m still around at 74 and capable of much — that’s luck. And once in a while someone buys one of my books.
“People with the number 5 are often said to have the following traits:
Independent: They want to do things on their own and find new solutions to problems.” Bingo.
“Social: They enjoy connecting with others and are often excellent communicators.” I do, but it’s not easy. I usually respond rather than initiate.
“Adventurous: They are natural born travelers and have a desire to explore the world.” Not me. I hate travel.
“Flexible: They are able to make quick decisions under pressure.” Not sure. I’ve never been tested on an important level, certainly not life or death.
“Cheerful: They give off positive vibes and attract positive company.” I show that to the public, but privately I’m more given to brooding. Does that sound like the characteristics of a Gemini?
“Impatient: Their impatience can sometimes lead to conflicts.” No. Folks often comment on how patient I am, and I joke that it’s more likely lunacy.
“Overconfident: They can be overconfident and talk too much.” Perhaps in my youth, absolutely not at this stage.
“People with the number 5 are said to excel in careers that involve communication and individuality, such as writing, law and business ownership.” Ahem. My first manuscript was Five Cents, although it wasn’t my first published book. It needed so much revision it fell to eighth in line. The lucky colors of fives are said to be green, light brown, and white. Way off. Mine are red, white and blue. Photo from GI:
What’s the number one song at iTunes? It’s this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sr-EHcUPat4
New book, photo from amazon.com:
Although there was no rain in the forecast, the Anti-Inflation Book Shop had to put up with a half-hour of sprinkles. My thanks to the elderly couple who donated a dynamite mix of movies, music and books; and to the young man who did a swap of Russian titles; and to the three gentlemen who each bought 3D art; and to the gentleman who purchased The Appeal by John Grisham; and to the woman who chose Music for Chameleons, short stories by Truman Capote.
