Off the Charts

If there’s a better picture of the day than this oddity that happened in North Carolina, I’d love to see it:

Jimmy Fallon is taking heat because of a SNL skit from 20 years ago in which he imitated Chris Rock in blackface. Isn’t Chris Rock black? What am I missing here?… As for the dog leash incident in Central Park, it should be titled When Douche Bags Collide… I suppose I have to comment on the incident in Minneapolis. Don’t resist arrest! This again deflects the issue of violence away from the alarming rate at which blacks, particularly males, do violence to each other.

Here’s a headline from nypost.com that touts something that seems bunk: “Men with long ring fingers are less likely to die from the coronavirus.”… And here’s an interesting chart on the pandemic from NYP:

I love the way certain folks hit on an idea that goes viral. An Oregon family asked for help in this way, and the response was huge, coming in from 20 countries:

Twitter is putting warning labels on the president’s tweets. This seems to indicate its execs think Americans are too stupid to figure out things for themselves. At least they’re not banning the tweets — yet. Will those of liberals also be tagged? That would go over big. It’s said by many that Facebook regularly removes posts it deems controversial. I believe in free speech and always want to know what the opposition is thinking.

RIP Richard Herd, 87, whose film and TV career spanned 1970–2020. Before that he was in theater. He will be remembered most for his eleven episode run as Yankees exec Mr. Wilhelm, George’s boss, on Seinfeld, but he did much more. There are 155 titles under his name at IMDb, including appearances in All the President’s Men (1976), TV’s MASH, and arcs in two Star Trek incarnations, all of which guarantees his work will be viewed for generations. He did guest shots on scores of popular TV fare, and co-starred in the TJ Hooker series. He also starred in a one-man show — Cecil B. DeMille Presents, and wrote the play Prisoner of the Crown, which was staged in Dublin. Here’s a quote from his most famous character: “Mr. Steinbrenner, I am very concerned about George Costanza.” Well done, sir. Thank you.

This morning I made five additions to the novella on which I’m working. There will be at least one more. I began proofing after lunch. I’ve always said no book is ever finished. I believe an author can get to 99%. I hope I’m there.
