Love this pic from nypost.com:

Friday night’s movie fix courtesy of Netflix by mail was not boring but did test my patience. First Date (2021) features several annoying characters who talk a blue streak. The story is familiar: a teenager buys a huge old Chrysler New Yorker from a guy who does not know its nooks and crannies are filled with bags of cocaine. A lot of people are killed fighting for it. I did not recognize a single member of the cast, although a couple have a long list of credits. Several are just starting out, many have experience in other facets of moviemaking besides acting, especially in shorts. Manuel Crosby and Darrell Knapp collaborated on the screenplay and co-directed. It is Crosby’s first full length feature, Knapp’s second. Anyone squeamish about violence and profanity should pass. I would categorize the film as a sort of screwball comedy. 543 users at IMDb have rated First Date, forging to a consensus of 5.3 on a scale of ten. It failed to generate excitement in its limited release, returning only $15,000+. I’d guess the cost of production was a few million, spent mostly on the abundant fireworks. For some reason, any pic of the vehicle used in the flick would not download, but a Google search turned up a remarkably similar one:

Unsurprising headline from foxnews.com: “Chicago gun shop sees skyrocketing sales following lockdowns, crime spikes.” In fact, I’m surprised the liberal city even has one. That prompted me to see if NYC has any. It has at least ten. I wonder how long it takes to acquire a weapon.

My guess is the floating book shop will be sidelined all week. I checked out my car. Even though it’s on the left-hand side, it’s surrounded by at least a foot of snow on all sides. I’m pondering making the long walk to the old house tomorrow, instead of driving, to pick up my laundry, although that may not be a good idea, as I may have to shovel the walk. On my way to Stop n Shop this morning I took a slight tumble when I stepped into a deep puddle camouflaged by snow. I went down to one knee, no damage done. It was icky.
