Past & Present

81 years ago today, “A day that will live in infamy.”

A tip of the cap to Hershell Walker, who subjected himself to the mainstream media’s barrage. Outspent four-to-one, he almost defeated Raphael Warnock, as radical a candidate as there will ever be. Here’s an interesting sidebar, headline from foxnews.com: “WEST WINGING IT: White House pressed on Biden comparing Georgia voting law to ‘Jim Crow’ despite record turnout.” Don’t think for yourself, believe what you’re told… Also from FN: “Karl Rove fumes that Trump lost Georgia Senate race for the GOP: ‘We got our clock cleaned’.” I acknowledge that it’s possible, but whose fault is the spending gap and whose the staggering difference in early voting?

If only Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg went after violent criminals with the same zeal he did the organization affiliated with Trump, who no doubt will appeal the verdict in the tax fraud trial.

Headline from nypost.com: “Mayor Adams faces fine for rats at his Brooklyn property.” This isn’t a defense of Adams, but this is probably a citywide problem. I stepped on a dead one in the street yesterday — yuck! I’m not sure if it was the same one I’d seen in that area two days ago. It was still there today.

The time had come to add page numbers to the file of Coincidence, the novella whose third draft I recently completed. It was silly how much I dreaded the task, as the Google Docs file resembles Microsoft Word. It has become an annual fiasco of frustration. The numbering should begin at the beginning of the story, so the file has to be broken into sections. I figured it out in less than ten minutes. What a relief. The next step is a thorough read to correct errors, the finding of any missing words, and the insertion of additions to the story.

Every once in a while I receive an email from classmates.com headlined: “Someone recalled Vic Fortezza.” I imagine those folks thinking: “How did such a dumb guy write so many books?”

The floating book shop was drizzled out today.
