The lack of parking at my usual book nook led to an alternate site, which proved fortuitous. My thanks to the woman who approached while I was setting up shop and told me how much she enjoyed A Hitch in Twilight, which she’d purchased about a year ago and finally got around to reading, despite the fact that it has nothing to do with her favorite topic — serial killers; and to the woman who selected four paperback romances; and to Sasha’s grandma, who chose a magazine in Russian; and to Olesya, a gift to the U.S. from Ukraine, who bought Five Cents. Of my ten books, it’s the one in which I’m the least confident. I worry that the reader will be disappointed. It was adapted from the first novel I ever wrote, which was two-thirds junk, most of that wasted on the trials of the suffering writer. I changed his character from self-centered to a good though troubled soul. I believe the theme of the senses would have been done better by a smarter, more talented author. As thanks, perhaps penance, I gave Olesya CD’s by the Beatles and Celine Dion.
