If there’s a better entry for pic of the day, let me know:

Here’s an interesting headline from nypost.com: “Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak wants to build crypto-run private cities in the desert.” As usual when it comes to so-called Blockchain ideas, I’m clueless. Who knows — maybe it will turn to gold… And here’s another headline, a continuation of the human comedy: “NY Times insiders in new uproar over ‘appropriate’ use of N-word.”

Peter Clark of Brooklyn Heights teaches music at St. Ann’s School. Before the pandemic, he enjoyed onstage roles including Henry Higgins in My Fair Lady (Ashlawn Opera) and Sweeney Todd at the St. Petersburg Opera. When the pandemic put the kibosh on live performances, he took to the street. He has performed 154 alfresco concerts from the stoop of a classically trained elderly woman. Here he is in action, photo from NYP:

From an article at foxnews.com: The Hyatt hotel came under fire for hosting the weekend conservative CPAC gathering. It had the perfect response to the naysayers: ““We take pride in operating a highly inclusive environment…” Kudos.

Also from FN, this headline: “Democrats release plan to bring back earmarks.” When were they banned? Isn’t most of the money of the stimulus plan going to pet projects? What am I missing?

Friday night’s movie fix, courtesy of Netflix by mail, was disappointing. The Last Beyond (2019) is a largely familiar story except for an aspect at the end. The time is 1933, the setting Montana. A man loses his home to foreclosure upon the death of his dad. During a night in jail he convinces a young man to become his partner in bootlegging. They are modestly successful, but outside forces, including the law, interfere. The pace is slow, the style often arty. Fortunately, it runs only 88 minutes. These days I have little patience for love scenes that last more than a few seconds. I’m also not big on American-Indian lore. The best aspect of the work is Lyn Moncrief’s cinematography. There are 55 titles under his name at IMDb, mostly shorts. This is writer/director Graham DuBose’s first full length feature. He’s gotten a lot farther than most aspiring auteurs. Maybe his next effort will be better. 42 users at IMDb have rated The Last Beyond, forging to a consensus of 4.9 on a scale of ten. It contains violence but less than most flicks.

Rain prevented the floating book shop from opening, and more is on tap for tomorrow, although I see sunshine at the moment. If I’d known, I might have given it a shot in the late afternoon. So it was a day of rest. The streets, sidewalks and vehicles certainly needed washing.
