Israelis are known for technological innovation. Recently, they instituted one at a human level, hiring autistic teenagers to aid in national security. Authorities cite assets such as razor sharp focus and the ability to stay at a task for hours as invaluable in such work. Kudos.

Surprisingly, marijuana is not yet legal in New York, arguably the most liberal state in the union, along with California. According to an article in today’s NY Post, residents who live near the border with Massachusetts, where pot is legal, have been crossing to make purchases and smuggle the stuff home. The Empire State offers free needles and shooting zones for intravenous drug users, but ganja is illegal — more twisted logic from local politicians. Doesn’t matter to me. I prefer Coke — the soda.

AOC tweet: “The restaurant I used to work at is closing its doors. I swung by today to say hi one last time, and kid around with friends like old times.” It’s closing because it can’t afford the $15 minimum wage supported by the likes of guess who. This afternoon an acquaintance said she was in Greenwich Village a few days ago and had never seen so many empty storefronts.

Not much action at the floating book shop today. My thanks to Lynn, who bought a Lisa Kleypas romance, and to the gentleman who purchased a book on math; and to the woman who pounced on the Danielle Steel translation in Russian. At the risk of being a jinx, are we in for an early spring this year? It seems so long since we’ve had one.
