Quiet Sunday
While watching Hannie Caulder (1971), a standard western notable for the presence of Raquel Welch as a revenge-minded victim of rape and the excellent performance by Robert Culp as her mentor, I wondered if Jack Elam were killed off in film more than any other actor. Not even close. Danny Trejo has been offed 93 times so far, the late Elam 32 times in film, 18 on TV, including five times on Gunsmoke. And the actress with the most screen deaths? It’s Shelley Winters — a mere 25. To my surprise, Eric Roberts has 70 screen deaths. Unsurprising, Christopher Lee has at least 61. There is a website devoted to the subject: cinemorgue.fandom.com/wiki/ It’s a work in progress, updated periodically by fans as well as management. I wouldn’t be surprised if an actor who began in the silent era would one day top the list.
This doesn’t sound good. Headline from nypost.com: “Navy to sideline 17 vessels due to manpower shortage, operating crews will be redistributed: report.”
Explain this. From NYP out of Oregon: “First-time homebuyers in this state get $30K grant — but US citizens aren’t eligible.”
Excerpt from an article concerning NYC by Dean Balsamini, edited by yours truly: “So far this year… 60 people have died by the blade — an 11% surge from the 54 in 2023.” I wonder if any of the killers should have been behind bars for past crimes.
From the column of NYP sports media critic Phil Mushnick: “University of Miami tight end Cam McCormick, 26, soon will make history, playing his ninth season of college ball.” Dogged by injuries, he has appeared in games in five seasons. It’s not all negative. He earned a Bachelor’s in journalism and communications, and a Master’s in advertising in brand responsibility at the University of Oregon. He is enrolled in Miami’s post-baccalaureate program.
Megalomania. Headline from foxnews.com: “Cornel West beats back Dems’ bid to keep him off battleground ballot.” Michigan. The difference between a West and Harris administration would likely be nil. Although I’m glad he will be on the ballot, as it may help DT, he is an ass.
From FN: “RFK Jr., Elon Musk and more react to Telegram CEO arrest in France: ‘Crossed a red line’.” He does not monitor content, hence the bust. I don’t think that’s right, but I wonder if leftist governments are merely attempting to squelch anything right of center.
No luck selling stuff curbside on this gorgeous day, breaking a long string of good business for the Anti-Inflation Book Shop. My thanks to the gentleman who did a five for three swap of mostly Russian titles.
