Reap, Sow
Here are two sad NYC headlines from nypost.com: “Famous brands close their Big Apple shops in record numbers.” “NY leads nation in population drop, could lose House seat.”… And here’s one that’s sure to raise hackles: “Chris Christie considering a presidential run in 2024.” If he were on the ballot, I’d guess he’d get the fewest votes of any candidate in history. He’s just another hack either unqualified or too lazy to work in the private sector… And here’s one that makes one wonder if there is currently any safe space on planet Earth: “COVID-19 has reached Antarctica, infecting 36 at research base.” I assume they weren’t wearing masks. Why would they?
Kudos to President Trump for vetoing a bill that could easily have been passed months ago and places pork far above the needs of many Americans. He has also vetoed the defense spending bill, the arguments of which are too complicated for my pay grade.
In the category of reap what you sow, this excerpt from an article about Portland, Oregon at foxnews.com, edited by yours truly: “14 officers have filed papers to retire by January, nine have resigned since November, and seven have filed to resign within the next few weeks… around 25 may be in the process of trying to get hired in other places.”
My views toward Amazon are biased because of my appreciation of it for allowing a fringe author such as me to publish books that are made available on the site. Despite that, I have the same contempt for Jeff Bezos’ political views as I do for those of Hollywood know-it-alls. He has received a dose of his own medicine from Bernie Sanders, who condemned the company’s corporate greed. I hope this opens his eyes to who the real enemy is.
Let the jokes begin — headline from foxnews.com: “Open mic catches LA cop in sex act near Universal Studios Bates Motel lot.” “Norman made me do it.” “Mother! Mother!” Although it probably refers to the TV show, here’s an image from the 1960 Hitchcock classic:
Although Cleopatra’s color has never been fully determined, actress Gal Gadot is being criticized for taking the role. Cleo’s origin is believed to be Macedonian. Many believe she was white. Here is the lovely Israeli in the part:
It was a gorgeous day for selling books curbside. Again most of the trade was in Russian. My thanks to the kind folks who bought, especially the gentleman who overcompensated me for a hardcover cook book whose title escapes me. Here are the other works in English that sold: All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten by Robert Fulghum, Mastering the Art of French Cooking by Julia Child, Louisette Bertholle, et al.; an entry in the vast Murder She Wrote series; and Skin Trade by Laurell K. Hamilton, the 17th novel of a series featuring Anita Blake, vampire hunter. There are also eight novellas or short story collections, and nine Marvel Comics. Hamilton must write in her sleep.
