Red Coat & Red Flags

Here’s a nypost.com headline that will make eyes glaze: “Life imitating art: Actress who played the ‘girl in the red coat’ in ‘Schindler’s List’ becomes real-life hero.” Now 32, her name is Oliwia Dabrowska. She lives in Krakow, Poland. She’s been aiding Ukrainian refugees. Kudos, madam. And here she is:

Reminder that we’ve yet to see it all, headline from NYP: “Dead rapper’s body propped up in club for ‘disrespectful’ public viewing.” According to the accompanying article by Ben Cost: “The memorial service took place Sunday, weeks after the hip-hopper was shot dead…” Weeks? It was held at DC’s Bliss nightclub. He was 24.

NYP headline: “99% of the world is breathing toxic air, report says.” Counter argument found after a Google search: “The United Nations estimate a global average life expectancy of 72.6 years for 2019 — the global average today is higher than in any country back in 1950.” And: “…average life expectancy in the U.S. is 78.6 years…” Those numbers have probably slipped since the pandemic. Is it faulty logic to conclude that what causes pollution extends life?

Headline to Rich Lowry’s op-ed piece at NYP: “When will the media ask: Could Joe Biden be clueless about family sleazy deals?” Never?

Amusing snippet from an NYP editorial, quote from Matt Taibbi: “Inflation is so bad, you might have to play a public course this summer.”

Now that Elon Musk is the majority shareholder of Twitter, let’s hope it again will allow free speech.

Tiger Woods will be playing in The Masters. Let the media fawning begin.

From a foxnews.com article by Houston Keene: “Transgender residents in Palm Springs, California are eligible to receive a UBI of up to $900 per month solely for identifying as transgender or nonbinary — no strings attached.” UBI=Universal Basic Income. Doesn’t that pigeonhole them as too pathetic to work? Don’t they want to be treated like everyone else is?

No wind or rain today, so it was a pleasant stay despite the lack of sunshine for the floating book shop. My thanks to the young man who bought seven sci-fi books in Russian and Goldie: A Lotus Grows in the Mud by Goldie Hawn & Wendy Holden; and to the woman who did a swap and buy of Russian hardcovers; and to the young man who purchased Snow in August by Pete Hamill; and to the gentleman who treated his lovely daughter to My Sister, of which I could find no info.
