Headline from newsmax.com: “Utah Township Rejects ESG Investing.” In case it’s not familiar, it stands for Environmental-Social-Governance, in other words, PC investing, which thus far has seen paltry returns. Kudos. I hope it’s the start of a wide trend.

RIP Chaim Topol, 87, who charmed the world as Tevye, father of five daughters, in the film version of Fiddler on the Roof (1971) and on stage. He received an Oscar nomination and won a Golden Globe for the role. Born in Tel Aviv, he was granted leave from the Israeli Army in order to attend the Academy Awards. Before the movie, he played the part more than 400 times on the London stage. He played it more than 2000 times worldwide, in the USA, Canada, Europe, Japan, New Zealand and Australia. In 2015 he was awarded the Israel Prize in Lifetime Achievement and special contribution to society and state. There are 25 titles under his name at IMDb. Here are other notable works his presence graced: Cast a Giant Shadow (1966), Flash Gordon (1980), 007 epic For Your Eyes Only (1981), and TV adaptations of Herman Wouk’s The Winds of War (1983) and War and Remembrance (1988-’89). He was a father of three. You were rich, man. Thank you.

From a foxnews.com article by Alexander Hall: A journalist spoke to legendary actor Michael Caine, 90: “When I tell him that Zulu is listed on the counter-terror Prevent scheme as a piece of culture that incites the far-right, he says: ‘That is the biggest load of bull**** I have ever heard.’” He also said: “There are no films I wish I hadn’t made.” The piece states: “The ‘Prevent’ program has also reportedly flagged the complete works of Shakespeare, The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien and the Great British Railway Journeys documentary series as works that could lead viewers toward right-wing extremism.” A twisted mind will find justification anywhere. I hope Caine sticks to his guns. Kudos, sir.

The wind backed off considerably, making the floating book shop a relatively easy endeavor on this beautiful day. My thanks to Alice and my Constant Benefactress, who delivered a handful of books between them; and to Ira, who bought Ghosts, Hauntings and Possessions: The Best of Hans Holzer; and to the young man who purchased War of the Worlds by H. G. Wells and The Terminal Man by Michael Crichton; and to the elderly woman who surprised the heck out of me, buying five books in Russian, four of them sci-fi/fantasy. It’s usually the young who go for that genre.
