Rising Above
RIP actor Gregory Sierra, 83, whose TV and film career spanned 1969–2018. Born in Spanish Harlem, he was abandoned by his parents and raised by an aunt. He didn’t let that stop him. He began his career on the stage, touring with the National Shakespeare Company and also working the New York Shakespeare Festival. In ’69 he moved to Hollywood. There are 126 titles under his name at IMDb. He will be remembered most for the 35 episodes he did of Barney Miller. I still recall the one in which his character killed a suspect in the line of duty, how deeply it affected him — wonderfully played. He also did 12 episodes each of Sanford and Son and Soap, and four of at least of eight other series. His work will live long after him. Well done, sir. Thank you. Here he is as Detective Chano in the squad room of the 12th Precinct:
There’s no sense complaining about what Biden is doing. None of his moves has been a surprise. Why make oneself sick over the expected?
No luck selling books curbside on this beautiful winter day. Get ’em tomorrow.
