Round Up

There’s a lot of good stuff in today’s NY Post. Here are summaries: An official in New Zealand went on a rant about Facebook, citing its leaders as uncaring about the distribution of despicable material that leads to violence. He gave it a hashtag: “TheyDon’tGiveAZuck.” I’m glad the stuff he cited never shows up on my feed. The political rants of leftists are annoying enough. I’m there to promote my books and communicate with friends and acquaintances, some of whom I may never have heard from again if not for the site. In that regard it is aces… New York scientists may have developed a cancer vaccine. In a small clinical trial lymphoma patients were in full remission for months or years. The serum boosts the immune system, which in turn teaches the body to attack tumors. Kudos. Any article I’ve ever read about Immunotherapy sounded so promising. If I should ever get a bleak diagnosis, it will be the first thing I ask the doctor about… A female student at Stanford has been expelled because of the fraudulent application she submitted to the university to gain acceptance. The school also vacated the credits she’d earned. I think the first part is fair, but the second seems overkill. Is it even legal?… NYC school’s chancellor Richard Carranza excoriated those who favor specialized exams for entrance into elite high schools as backers of “a racist law.” Isn’t lowering the bar a form of racism?… Richard Johnson ends his gossip column with a quote from late actor George Raft: “Part of it went on gambling and part of it went on women. The rest I spent foolishly.”

Benjamin Netanyhu has been a great ally of America. Still, he has already served four terms. Is there no one else of similar stripe to lead Israel?

Here’s a head-scratcher from Yahoo’s Odd News, edited by yours truly: A 59-year-old guy who’d just bought an $8 million island off of Key West was arrested for participating in a scheme to steal $300 in household items from Kmart. He returned a number of them for a refund. The boxes were stuffed with other items! A Keurig coffee maker box had a basketball inside it. Is this an example of how he acquired the money to buy the island?

It was a raw, dreary day. At least it didn’t rain while the floating book shop was in session. My thanks to the woman who bought two hardcovers in Russian, and to those who stopped to chat, just about all of whom complained about the cold.
