Sad Departure & Joyous Arrival
RIP Ivana Trump, 73, who lived in the public eye with grace and class. Photo from Google Images:
Just when it seemed the crisis at the border couldn’t get any worse, headline from nypost.com: “Sickening spike: Growing number of migrants abducted by greedy cartels at border, held for up to $10K ransom.” It often seems Mexico is run by the cartels, which have grown so powerful only massive carnage would stop them.
The news about the Uvalde shooting continues to be demoralizing. It seems the harshest critics were right. Geez.
I don’t know what it was, but last night I felt better than I had in a long time. Maybe it was the residual effects of working up a good sweat the past couple of days. Even my colon felt entirely clear, rare these days. Probably temporary.
Karma, Kramer, headline from foxnews.com: “‘No sympathy’: AOC blasted for complaining about harassment though she belittled Kavanaugh’s harassment.”
Good news out of West Virgina, FN headline: “‘WOW!’: A child is born on 7/11 in a 7-Eleven parking lot.” Dad delivered Waylon Bush, who came in at six pounds, eight ounces. Welcome to the great adventure, young man. Photo from Google Images:
Another gem from the Staten Island goombah:
I worked up another good sweat today at the floating book shop. For the first time this week the outgoing surpassed the incoming by a wide margin. My thanks to Dave, who donated a handful of cookbooks, and to the kind folks who made purchases. Here’s what sold: four books in Russian, four WWII works of non-fiction; Mistletoe and Murder by Robin Stevens; Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate; Letters from Dudley by Dudley Moore; Vanished by Danielle Steel; Captain Nemo: The Fantastic History of a Dark Genius by Kevin J Anderson; and a collection of the poems of Sappho, born on the isle of Lesbos circa 630 BC. Only 600+ lines of her works have survived. Legend has it that she killed herself by jumping off a cliff for love of a ferryman in 570 BC. As for her sexuality, no one knows for sure which way she swung, but she is often depicted in Greek works as a promiscuous heterosexual, which must irk wokesters. (Facts from Wiki)
