Sad Times

If it was/is Trump supporters who breached the capitol, they did a great disservice to the President, the Republican party and America. It’s a disgrace.

I thought the Dems had erred in accelerating their path to socialism. Turns out I’m the one who was mistaken. They did a lot of damage during the first two years of the Obama administration when they had complete control of both chambers of congress. Some of that was reversed by Trump. I doubt that will be the case this time. If DC and Puerto Rico become states, Dems will not need mail-in voting to prevail. They’ll always have the continued support of RINOs.

Rowan Atkinson, the Brit who played Mr. Bean and Johnny English (2003), had this to say in a radio interview: “It’s important that we’re exposed to a wide spectrum of opinion, but what we have now is the digital equivalent of the medieval mob, roaming the streets looking for someone to burn.” Kudos, sir.

Here’s an interesting headline from nypost.com: “Atomic clock scientists suggest shortening minute to 59 seconds.” Seems the rotation of the earth has picked up speed lately. Sometimes it slows down. Who knew?

Although I’ve seen The Thin Man (1934) many times, I watched a chunk of it last night as it ran on Movies!, channel 5–2 on ota’s in NYC. At one point a nationwide bulletin is issued. A neat effect follows wherein a map of the USA is covered by a net that originates and branches out from the Big Apple, where the murders were committed. Unfortunately, I was unable to find a pic of it. Sgt. Joe Friday of Dragnet would have approved.

As I was coming to the end of my morning walk at about 6:30, I noticed the availability of the prime parking spot in terms of the floating book shop. On my way to the car, which was four minutes away, I was chuckling as I asked the universe to keep the spot open, something someone in Rhonda Byrne’s The Secret claimed worked for him. I sped along in the old Hyundai, making two lights, then making a right at East 14th, then a U-turn on Avenue Z, then backing up and turning into the space at the corner of East 13th, which to my surprise was still open. The only problem when I got there at ten-thirty was the cold wind which, fortunately, wasn’t constant. I was able to cut it off a bit by standing closer to the adjacent apartment building than the car. Despite that good luck, it seemed it was going to be the first goose egg in a while. Asking the universe repeatedly to send customers wasn’t working. Then, about 15 minutes from closing time, an angel appear in the form of a young woman. She bought six books in the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan, a five box set of children’s classic literature, one of which was The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett, and a box set of W.I.T.C.H.: The Magic of Friendship (Books 1–4) by Elizabeth Lenhard, several other kids books and, for herself, First Among Equals by Jeffrey Archer. My thanks.
