Saturday Briefing
Many seem to have forgotten, photo from Google Images:
Among those who have forgotten, the most useless organization in the world. Headline from foxnews.com: “More countries cut funding to UN agency after staffers accused of participating in Oct. 7 Hamas attack. Italy, Australia, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and Canada have pulled funding from the agency.” Some people claim to be surprised by the actions of the staffers. I’m not.
$83 million for E. Jean Carroll, who cannot cite specifics, whose 1990’s “rape” dress was actually manufactured post 2000. What a country! DT continues to be the only modern president not to have profited from his time in office. He’s hemorrhaging millions!
This sounds like an episode from the original Law & Order series. Headline from nypost.com: “93 Americans have died from cosmetic surgery in the Dominican Republic: CDC.”
For the second day in a row AI news disappoints. Headline from theguardian.com: “George Carlin’s estate sues over AI-generated standup comedy special.” Cue the seven words one can never say, aim them at the producers of the podcast.”
I’ve typed the third draft of my latest story into Word Pad. I’ll proof it later, then add it to the book file I’m amassing at Google Docs. The most surprising aspect of writing at this stage is how much fun it is. I suppose it is attributable to the fact that 99% of my canon is complete. Every word hereon will be gravy, no pressure. I’m mining what remains of the interesting aspects of my life — interesting to me at least. The latest is something related to me long ago by a friend, a lewd act by a girl, although it has me wondering if I’ve taken the piece too far, even though it’s not explicit. Then again, what am I worried about — that it will affect non-existent book sales, sink my non-existent reputation as a writer? It’s not like the sequence is poorly written or forced.
My thanks to the kind folks who donated, swapped and bought books on this relatively mild January day. Here’s what sold: six CDs, five DVDs and three books in Russian; a collection of four of Alfred Hitchcock’s early films on DVD; The Complete History of the New York Giants on DVD; Criminal Intent by William Bernhardt; The French Lieutenant’s Woman by John Fowles. I am blessed.
