Among the many celebrations of May 18th, it’s Armed Forces Day. Photo from Google Images:

RIP actor Dabney Coleman, 92. Born in Austin, he was a master of the egomaniacal tyrant. There are 180 titles under his name at IMDb, a figure that doesn’t include his multiple appearances on TV shows. His career spanned 1961 to the present, his final work to be released posthumously. He was in 148 episodes of Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman, 130 of Forever Fernwood, 26 of Buffalo Bill, 22 of The Slap Maxwell Story; 18 of Drexell’s Class; 16 of Madman of the People; 14 of Recess; 67 of The Guardian; 24 of Boardwalk Empire. He was nominated for six Emmys, winning in 1987 for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or a Special, Sworn to Silence. On the big screen he was in Downhill Racer (1969), Cinderella Liberty (1973), The Towering Inferno (1974), Bite the Bullet (1975), Midway (1976), Rolling Thunder (1977), North Dallas Forty (1979), Melvin and Howard (1980), 9 to 5 (1980), On Golden Pond (1981), Tootsie (1982), WarGames (1983), Plaza Suite (1987), You’ve Got Mail (1988), Stuart Little (1998). Married twice, he was a father of four. A great run. Here’s a quote attributed to him: “I’ve played good guys and nice guys, but the truth is I’d rather be nasty than nice. The bad guys are always better written and more fun to play.” Thank you, Sir. Photo from GI:

Headline from nypost.com: “Mercedes workers at Alabama plant vote to reject unionization in setback for UAW.” Yay!

This may be the most amusing headline of the day: “Wealthier customers flock to Walmart to boost retailer’s sales in strong Q1 earnings.” I wonder if it includes any of the liberals who used to bad mouth that great company.

Fodder for sci-fi writers, from NYP: “Bizarre personality changes reported in organ transplant patients.” Too bad Mulder and Scully are retired.

Headline from foxnews.com: “Argentinian conservative silences critics by whipping inflation in mere months.” Muy bien, Senor Milei. May it happen in the good ol’ USA.

It was a pleasant day for curbside business until sprinkles began late in today’s session of the Anti-Inflation Book Shop. My thanks to my Constant Benefactress, who delivered three highly marketable titles, and to Wolf, who bought CDs by Taylor Dayne, James Taylor, Keith Urban and Tanya Tucker; and to the woman who purchased a dictionary, and The Age of Dignity: Preparing for the Elder Boom in a Changing America by Ai-jen Poo, and Anti-Aging Breakthrough: Your Guide to Living Younger Longer by The Editors of Bottom Line; and to the gentleman who chose Please and Thank You, a kids’ book by Richard Scarry; and to Alice, who selected Blow Out by Catherine Coulter… While waiting for customers to come along, I spotted an interesting license plate: EXSINNER. That tag only applies to the deceased, I’m afraid.
