RIP singer-songwriter Greg Kihn, 75, who succumbed to complications from Alzheimer’s. Born in Baltimore, he was playing coffee houses while in high school. His mom submitted a tape of one of his songs to a talent contest conducted by a local Top 40 radio station, and Kihn, 17, took first prize, winning a typewriter, a stack of records and a Vox electric guitar. He moved to California and in 1976 formed his eponymous band, which attracted a cult following. His first hit came in ’81, the catchy The Breakup Song (They Don’t Write ‘Em — “Uh uh uh, uh uh uh uh uh”), which rose to #15. His second, Jeopardy, reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became an MTV video staple. He toured frequently, opening for groups including Journey, the Grateful Dead and the Rolling Stones. He often appeared on TV. There are 23 albums listed on his Wiki page. Only three rose higher than #35, Kihnspiracy hitting #15. From 1996 through 2012 he was a morning DJ for a Bay Area classic rock radio station. In 1996 he published Horror Show, which was nominated for the prestigious Bram Stoker Award for Best First Novel. He published six more and contributed a piece to Carved in Rock: Short Stories by Musicians. He was involved in several charities. He is survived by his wife and two children. Awesome, Sir. Thank you. Facts from Wiki, photo from Google Images. Here’s a link to the Jeopardy video. What makes it so good is the almost complete absence of lip-synching. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43_GqFW7iYcbill

Cloud cover and a nice breeze took the sting out of the humidity at today’s session of the Anti-Inflation Book Shop. My thanks to Lynn, who donated about 20 works of fiction, and to Herbie who bought six of them, four by Debbie Macomber and two by Robyn Carr; and to history buff Robbie Blox and his dad Angelo, who overcompensated me for The Federalist Papers by Alexander Hamilton and James Madison; and to the gentleman who purchased a classical compilation CD; and to all those who took home 3D art.
