Say Hey
RIP Willie Mays, 93, arguably the greatest baseball player of all-time. Born in Alabama, he was signed by the NY Giants out of high school in 1950. In ’51 he was the NL Rookie of the Year. Known as “The Say Hey Kid,” he did it all, a five-tool player. He was the only major-leaguer I’ve ever seen employ the basket catch, his signature. In 23 seasons he had 3293 hits, 660 homers, 1909 RBI and a BA of .301. Here are other individual accomplishments: 24-time All-Star, World Series champion (1954), two-time NL MVP (1954, 1965), twelve-time Gold Glove Award winner (1957–1968), NL batting champion (1954), four-time NL home run leader (1955, 1962, 1964, 1965), four-time NL stolen base leader (1956–1959), four home runs in one game, San Francisco Giants #24 retired, New York Mets #24 retired, San Francisco Giants Wall of Fame, Major League Baseball All-Century Team, Major League Baseball All-Time Team. He played all but his last two seasons with the Giants. Married twice, he was the father of an adopted child. After his playing career ended, he served as a hitting instructor with the Mets until the end of the ’79 season. When later that year he took a job with an Atlantic City casino, he was banned from MLB. He was reinstated in ’85. He then worked in the Giants front office. Photos from Google Images. The second is “The Catch” from Game One of the 1954 World Series when Mays ran down the long drive of the Indians’ Vic Wertz. The Giants swept the series. Willie Mays was the best I ever saw.
For those who believed Slick Willie was a moderate and not a political opportunist who adjusted to survive, explain this headline from foxnews.com: “Bill and Hillary Clinton help Biden rake in big bucks in fundraising battle with Trump.” He is one of the elites trying to remake America in their own image.
According to an FN article by Julie Gerstein, these are the world’s most expensive cities to live in: Hong Kong (14th year in a row at #1); Sydney, Vancouver, San Jose, L.A., Honolulu, San Francisco, San Diego, Toronto, Melbourne.
I’ve got to hand it to quid Pro Joe, he has yet to take credit for inventing AI.
I would be surprised if there’s a terrorist attack before the election.
It’s still not hot, at least in Sheepshead Bay, but it was muggy today at the Anti-Inflation Book Shop. My thanks to Lou, who bought six more DVDs, and to The Quiet Man, who purchased five Big Band era CDs; and to the gentleman who overcompensated me for CDs by Louis Armstrong, Dave Brubeck, Count Basie and Joni Mitchell.
