Interesting tidbit from a nypost.com editorial: “Chicago’s Black population dropped to 787,551 in 2020, its lowest total since the mid-1950s.” Gee, I wonder why.
This headline from newsmax.com is sure to infuriate the left: “Florida Reports Lowest COVID-19 Case Rate per Capita in US.”
RIP MLB relief ace Doug Jones, 64, who succumbed to Covid complications. In 16 seasons he had 303 saves and an ERA of 3.30, despite a fastball that barely registered 80 MPH on the speed gun. His go-to pitch was a changeup. A five-time All-Star, he had at least 20 saves in eight different seasons. He pitched for six different teams in his 16-year career. He had the proverbial cup of coffee in 1982, then held firm from 1986–2000. After his playing days he coached at the high school, collegiate and minor league levels. Well done, sir.
Here’s an interesting bit of spin, headline from foxnews.com: “Uproar erupts on Catholic campus as painting depicts George Floyd as Jesus.” From what I’ve read, he seemed more like Barabbas.
This FN headline surprised me: “US COVID-19 deaths in 2021 surpass 2020’s toll.” And this one will surprise nobody: “Lebron, NBA comment on Rittenhouse trial, fall silent on missing Chinese tennis star.” They know who butters their bread.
Here’s a new book geared to RINOs:
Circa 1990 I wrote a short story set in Coney Island titled Wonder Wheel about a 40+-year-old guy who comes on strong to a woman. One editor bashed it so thoroughly that I took it out of circulation. I’ve been debating whether to add to the Curious Sicilian book file, suspecting I’d be using it as filler just to get closer to the 200-page target I set for a print version. Today I’m leaning toward why not? What difference would it make even if it’s as bad as the guy said? How do I know any of the other pieces is any better? Why even make it an issue when the book will be read, if I’m lucky, by a few hundred people?
There was only one solution to today’s wind and cold in terms of the floating book shop — set up the display and sit in the car. As usual effort was rewarded. My thanks to the woman who donated a stellar cache of goods that included media. It paid immediate dividends. My thanks to the delivery guy who, after about a half hour of back and forth hard work, bought Janet Jackson’s Design of a Decade CD; and to The Quiet Man, who took home DVD collections of Mr. Magoo, Lassie and Gojira; and to Michael, who as usual selected a romance novel set in another century, Mr. Cavendish, I Presume by Julia Quinn; and to the lovely young woman who purchased Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J. K. Rowling and Hidden Figures: The American Dream and the Untold Story of the Black Women Mathematicians Who Helped Win the Space Race by Margot Lee Shetterly.
