Seeing Stars

Open borders, closed schools. Here’s a comforting newsmax.com headline: “108 Illegal Immigrants With Coronavirus Released in Texas.”

Reparations are again being discussed. Although I’m against them, it would be a relief for a measure to pass to eliminate it as a topic of conversation and to show it would not improve race relations an iota and may even make them worse. Are they hoping the payoff will end black on black violence? Of course not. What am I thinking? It’s vote buying plain and simple, an effort to recapture ground lost to Trump… In a related story, an MSDNC host said: “People on the right would trade all the tax cuts for the ability to openly say the n-word like in the good old days.” Maybe conservatives should go into hip hop to be able to use and profit from it without penalty… And how about this out of Tampa. A black cop who works in a high school twice used the N-Word while making arrests. He has been terminated, not suspended. Ironically, his last name is White.

I was pissed that circumstances once again prevented me from setting up the book shop at my usual nook, but things couldn’t have worked out much better. My thanks to Ann, who bought my rock n roll epic, Rising Star, and A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens; and to my only Asian customer lately, who purchased CDs by Natalie Cole and Dead or Alive, and Silent Witness by Richard North Patterson; and to the woman who went home with The Duchess by Danielle Steel; and to the gentleman who jumped on Star by Pamela Anderson, which I’d prominently displayed for months, certain it would incite immediate curiosity, only to be proven wrong. It is a novelization of her life. Of course one wonders how much of it she wrote herself. According to an article at theguardian.com by Jamie Doward: “Eric Shaw Quinn is credited on the inside of the jacket as the wordsmith.” I wonder how she rewarded him. Anyway, Doward suggests Anderson’s authorship is as genuine as a certain part(s) of her anatomy. There’s a sequel, Star Struck. Scanning works that bear (bare) her name at Amazon, most are issues of Playboy. She has graced the cover of Hugh Hefner’s creation a record 14 times. There is also a bio by Harriet Harrison, and a pictorial that features what seems her poetry, titled Raw. Whether she actually wrote any of it does not matter to the male chauvinist pig, a species currently in hiding. We love seeing pictures of her, clothed or au naturale.
