Tokyo kid cools off. Reuters photo by Issei Kato:

Headline from nypost.com: “‘Defenders of democracy’ staged a cover-up and coup.” At least 45% of voters won’t care. And: “Hailing Biden after they knifed him, Democrats are treating Americans like we are blind idiots.” It’s what politicians do.

Negligence or incompetence, take your pick regarding the assassination attempt. I’m just glad DT’s alive and fighting. Maybe security is now shamed into doing a thorough job. The Secret Service Director has resigned. Move on to important stuff. There’s an election to win.

Sign o’ the times from NYP: “Dear Abby: I’m engaged to a much younger woman who I’ve never met — will it work out?” Sure.

From NYP: “McDonald’s to extend $5 Meal Deal through August as store traffic improves.” Duh! Fast food is supposed to be inexpensive.

From NYP: “New Yorkers pay 164% more in rent than the average American.” And whose fault is that, pray tell?

From NYP: “Tampon, pad prices nearly double over last 5 years due to inflation.” Dare I joke about PMS?

Headline from newsmax.com: “Rep. Malliotakis: Dems Wanted Early Debate to Oust Biden.” Makes sense.

RIP international movie star Yvonne Furneaux, 98. Born in northern France, dad English, mom French, she trained in London at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. She made her stage debut at 24 and had roles in Macbeth and The Taming of the Shrew. But her beauty was perfect for the big screen. There are 45 titles under her name at IMDb, career spanning 1952-’84. She appeared in two highly regarded films: Fellini’s La Dolce Vita (1960) and Polanski’s Repulsion (1965). She played Jenny Diver opposite Laurence Olivier as Mack the Knife in The Beggar’s Opera (1953). She did horror such as The Mummy (1959) and myths such as The Slave Queen of Babylon (1963). Her swan song came after a twelve-year hiatus, as the star of Frankenstein’s Great Aunt Tillie (1984). Married from 1962 until her beloved’s death in 2007, she was a mom of one. Well done, Madam. Brutal humidity today at the Anti-Inflation Book Shop. My thanks to the woman who donated a number of books, and to the gentleman who bought This ‘N That by Bette Davis and Michael Herskowitz; and to the woman who purchased His Excellency: George Washington by Joseph J. Ellis.
