Short Takes

I couldn’t find a relevant photo for today’s blog, so here’s one that will be relevant as long as mankind exists: Salvador Dali’s 1931 masterpiece, The Persistence of Memory, from Google Images:

After the leak of classified documents by a 21-year-old Massachusetts Air National Guardsman, one wonders if any branch of the U.S. government inspires confidence. WTF?

Hope on the medical front, headline from nypost.com: “Breakthrough: MIT scientists discover ‘remarkable’ way to reverse Alzheimer’s disease.”

And hope on the energy front, headline from foxnews.com: “Biden admin approves massive gas pipeline project in huge blow to climate activists.” I’m stunned. If it ever gets off the ground, it will be in Alaska and deliver natural gas.

FN headline concerning a study in Florida: “After finding ‘no specific definition’ for a woman, school district states only females can get pregnant.” Half right will have to do.

Another gorgeous day spent in the shade, pleasant breeze blowing along Avenue Z, as the floating book continued its recent run of good luck. The incoming again dwarfed the outgoing, as the inventory grows to ridiculous proportions. My thanks to those who donated, swapped and bought stuff, especially to Kim, who overcompensated me for a Jack London translation in Russian. Movie Buff purchased The Death Instinct by Jed Rubenfeld and a Reader’s Digest compilation of four abridged novels. The Quiet Man took home Dad Jokes, which resembles a deck of cards. A woman selected The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory. And a gentleman chose a hardcover in Russian. And Lulu and Andy gave me a calzone from Aldi’s, already devoured. I am blessed.
