Sketches
It’s the shortest day of the year, but not so short, unfortunately, as to prevent politicians from doing damage.
From a nypost.com article by Alex Mitchell, in my own words: Ten years ago while riding the F train, Sarah Nisbitt, now 39, had an epiphany. She attempted to sketch a fellow straphanger. She’d never tried to draw anyone and was surprised at how it came out. She continued to do it through the years and it has led to Instagram fame, 27,000 followers, and now a book, Drawn on the Way. Here’s an example of the UES resident’s work:
Yes, things are not nearly as good as they should be in the USA, but imagine living in this land, headline from newsmax.com: “Laughter Banned for 11 Days in North Korea.” It supposed to “honor the death of former Supreme Leader Kim Jong Il, the father of current leader Kim Jong Un.” (Article by Jeremy Frankel)
Snippet from an AP article at foxnews.com: “This past year was the first time since 1937 that the nation’s population grew by less than 1 million people.” The gain was 392,665.
Headline from FN: “Ohio man allegedly steals 58-foot bridge from park, charged with felony theft.” In the accompanying article by Paul Best, he writes: “Bridge theft is a niche black market industry… Two Washington state men were arrested in October for allegedly cutting chunks of cedar out of the base of a bridge to resell… An Indiana man was convicted in 2018 of scrapping an unused bridge and selling parts for more than $14,000.” The human race never ceases to fascinate.
Also from FN: “Covid relief fraud nears $100B, Secret Service says.” Liberals simply shrug their shoulders at this. It happens in every government program and no one does anything about it.
No wind again today along Avenue Z, so it was fairly easy sledding for the floating book shop. To my surprise, I didn’t have to retreat to the car even once to warm up. My thanks to the gentleman and ladies who combined to buy four books in Russian, and to the woman who purchased a handsome little hardcover book on Einstein. That is one of the names that always sells, same as Kennedy, Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, the Beatles, Picasso.
