Troubling snippet from a nypost.com article by Bruce Golding: “District attorneys across the Big Apple last year declined to prosecute accused felons at nearly twice the rate of 2019 — letting more than 6,500 suspects off the hook.” Too bad Law & Order’s Arthur Branch was fictional. Then again, a conservative could rise to Manhattan District Attorney only on TV. It did lead to great arguments, though.
Snippets from a foxnews.com article by Emma Colton, non-fiction: “San Francisco is rolling out a pilot program that will pay high-risk individuals to not shoot anyone… The Dream Keeper Fellowship will pay 10 individuals who are at high risk of being on either end of a shooting $300 each month… Participants are also eligible to receive an additional $200 per month through ways such as working, going to school or being a mediator in potentially violent situations… Participants of the program will be paired with life coaches.” Too bad Arthur Branch couldn’t be in two places at once. Mr. Branch to Lt. Van Buren, arguing about the death penalty: “… You know, Lieutenant, in the end, a man’s motives are secondary to his accomplishments.”

The last time I saw Occupy Jack he was about to move to Israel, the land of his birth. An Anti-Zionist, he got cold feet. He pulled his van up today and held court in his inimitable way. He’d just been suspended from Twitter for an incendiary post about Afghanistan. His main concern is that terrorists now have American-made, laser-guided weaponry with which to shoot down planes. Of course, he pantomimed as he was pontificating, putting on a show in a style that so often entertained me in the past. I probably disagree with 90% of his views, but I’m glad I’ll get to see him once in awhile. He’s sleeping in his van and plans to apply for food stamps.
Here’s an FN headline that Jack might do a lot with: “Laser strikes on airplanes rose from 2019 to 2020.” Idiots targeted flights 6852 times.
Expecting rain, I put out only six boxes of books today, equally divided between English and Russian. My thanks to the lovely young woman who purchased three hardcover thrillers: The 8th Confession by James Patterson and Maxine Paetro, and Kindred In Death and Secrets in Death by J.D. Robb. As soon as the sale was complete, I got cold feet myself and packed it in a half hour earlier than usual, thinking it unwise to press my luck. Wrong move — two hours later, it’s still not raining.
