RIP Hollywood heartthrob David Soul (Solberg), 80. Born in Chicago, son of a minister, he had phenomenal success as an actor and singer. Early in his career he was doing fine, making guest appearances on popular shows. His role as a vigilante cop in Magnum Force (1973) eventually led to his being cast in Starsky and Hutch, which made him a star and is the work for which he is most remembered, 92 episodes. He remained hot after its run ended. In ’79 he starred in the popular two-part adaptation of Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot. In ’88 he went against type, playing a cop killer in In the Line of Duty: The F.B.I. Murders. He and Paul Michael Glaser did cameos in the Starsky & Hutch (2004) reboot. There are 89 titles under Soul’s name at IMDb, including 52 episodes of Here Come the Brides, 22 of The Yellow Rose, and numerous guest shots on prime-time series, screen career spanning ‘66–2013. He also did some stage work and has 13 credits as a director, all in TV, and three as a producer. Then there was his other career. In 1962 he made masked appearances on The Merv Griffin Show as a singer known only as “The Covered Man.” Beginning in ’76, he released five albums, the first two doing very well worldwide. The single Don’t Give Up on Us hit #1 in several countries, including the USA, selling more than a million copies alone in the UK, where his music was very popular. In ’77 Silver Lady also cracked the top five in several lands. Married five times, Soul was a father of five. A great run. Facts also from Wiki, photo from Google Images:

Headline from nypost.com: “Not mincing words: Animated Biden calls Trump ‘loser’ fairy-tale villain — while likening self to George Washington.” Yes, “I cannot tell a lie” fits him perfectly… Also from NYP: “DOJ has spent more than $23M investigating Trump, $6.4M probing Biden.”

More evidence that WWIII is underway? Headline from foxnews.com: “North Korea’s Kim shells disputed territory, prompting South Korea to return fire.”

Also from FN: “Restaurant owner breaks down costs forcing him to charge $16 for BLT.” I recently paid $4.90 for one at a bagel shop and thought that was outrageous.

PC madness continues. From FN: “British Film Institute places trigger warnings on screenings of classic James Bond films: ‘Will cause offence’.” Goldfinger (1964) and You Only Live Twice (1967). Here are Sean Connery and Honor Blackman (Pussy Galore), photo from GI:

Good news on the medical front, from FN: “New antibiotic kills deadly, drug-resistant bacteria in scientific ‘breakthrough’.”

From FN: “Elvis Presley to return to stage as A.I. hologram in London.” Long live the King. Photo from GI:

There was no choice but to sit in the car at today’s cold, cloudy calm-before- the-storm session of the floating book shop. Although there were a few browsers, none found anything to his/her liking.
