Spaghetti ala Miou
Headline from nypost.com: “Poll After Indictment: Trump Lead in GOP Grows to 30 Points.” Unfortunately, the entire nation is still in an approximate 50–50 divide.
Also from NYP: “Japan Buys Russian Oil Above G-7’s $60 Cap.” It seems Vlad will be able to finance his folly indefinitely. Maybe the only way the Ukraine war will end is if the Russian people rise up and throw the bum out — and what are the chances of that?
From newsmax.com: “OPEC Cuts Oil Production by 1 Million Barrels a Day.” Even this is unlikely to reverse America’s foolish energy policy.
Last night Circle, Channel 2–5 on OTA in NYC, ran a comic spaghetti western completely unfamiliar to me: The Genius, Two Partners and the Dupe (1975), starring Terrence Hill, Miou-Miou, Klaus Kinski, Patrick McGoohan and Robert Charlesbois, directed and co-written by Damiano Damiani. Since the flick is standard genre fare, I’ll concentrate on a few of the personages involved rather than the story . Born in Venice in 1939 as Mario Girotti, raised near Dresden, his mom German, Terrence Hill’s family survived WWII. He made his acting debut at twelve in 1952, and at first appeared in mainstream films, including the highly regarded The Leopard (1963), before he began an intense run in westerns, especially as Trinity. There are 85 titles under his name at IMDb, but that figure is misleading, as he appeared in 42 episodes alone of Un Passo dal Cielo and 260 of Don Matteo, in which he plays a crime-solving priest. He married an American and lives in the USA, a dad of two… Born as Sylvette Herry in Paris in 1950, Miou-Miou worked in a theater as a cleaning lady and dresser before becoming an actress. Her nickname derived from the fact that she was always nice, quiet and clean as a kitten. Her screen career spans 1971 to the present. A ten-time César Award nominee, she won Best Actress for Memoirs of a French Whore (1979), but refused the award on the grounds actors should not compete against one another. There are 103 titles under her name, almost all in film. Never married, she is a mom of two… Born in Montreal in 1944, Robert Charlesbois has only 13 credits as an actor, eleven as a composer in a career spanning 1967–2021. Wiki lists 21 albums in his name, and cites his genres as psychedelic rock and folk rock… Damiano Damiani(1922–2013) began as a comic book writer. He directed 37 films and two miniseries, and has 41 credits as a writer in a career that spanned 1947–2002. His most notable work is Confessions of a Police Captain (1971), starring Franco Nero. I saw the myth-based Goddess of Love (1957) as part of a double feature Saturday matinee back in the day. He was a dad of three… Here are Hill, Charlesbois and Miou-Miou in character:
And here is the director:
Cool conditions today at the floating book shop. My thanks to the four people who donated marketable titles, and to the gentleman who purchased Five Cents by yours truly; and to Alice, who bought Double Jeopardy by Catherine Coulter; and to the woman who overcompensated me for Art Through the Ages, a large pictorial the previous owner filled with notations; and to The Frenchman, who selected The Republic by Plato and Django: The Life and Music of a Gypsy Legend by Michael Dregni.
