Stayin’ Alive

From the Associated Press, edited by yours truly: “Kansas City voters overwhelmingly approved removing Dr. Martin Luther King’s name from one of the city’s most historic boulevards, less than a year after the city council decided to rename The Paseo for the civil rights icon… the proposal received nearly 70% support…” Wow. I didn’t think I’d see such intense blowback in my lifetime. Is it the start of a trend?

Okay — which is the best barometer of how the 2020 election will go? Is it the narrow Democratic gubernatorial win in Kentucky, the fact that Virginia is now entirely in the hands of Dems, the GOP win in Mississippi, or the fact that Dems nationwide have been unable to vote Sean Spicer off of Dancing with the Stars despite his weak skills? Will he use the Bee Gee’s Stayin’ Alive next episode? Here’s a couple that might beat him — Cyd Charisse & Gene Kelly in Singin’ in the Rain (1952).

Is anyone surprised that ABC put the kibosh on a Jeffery Epstein story? Doesn’t George Stephanopoulos, aka Clintonopolous, work there? I wish I could take credit for the clever name-game, but it belongs to WOR talk radio host Mark Simone. The story about the nixing of the story was unearthed by a secretly recorded conversation with the woman who put it together, another coup for Project Veritas, which has been exposing the shenanigans of the left the past few years.

I’ve mentioned Political Man, aka Jeff, many times in this blog. He goes out of his way to tell people on the street and in stores how corrupt Republicans are. These days the President is his main target. Today I had a conversation with Herbie, who has been a great friend to the floating book shop. He mentioned having seen Jeff at the bank and how he immediately began excoriating Trump. Both are in their 70’s. Herbie wants Trump out too, but he replied that impeachment wouldn’t pass the senate, which Jeff grudgingly conceded. Herbie is on disability, having suffered a massive heart attack years ago. He’s also diabetic. He has voted only for Democrats in his adult life, and will continue to do so. He believes Jeff is foolish for not demanding his man, who is worth a lot of money, make a will. I said Jeff has been sponging off him for years and should have socked away a lot of cash in a savings account and would have no one to blame but himself if the guy died and he was left with nothing. Herbie mentioned that at one time Jeff was on welfare, despite the fact that he was living with a guy worth at least a million bucks. And he calls Trump corrupt.

M thanks to the kind folks who bought and donated books on this glorious day. Here’s some of what sold: Twilight by Stephanie Meyer, romance novels by Stephanie Laurens, Mary Balogh and Debbie Macomber; thrillers by John D. McDonald, Robert B. Parker and Clive Cussler; a Jacques Pepin cook book; a thick tome on natural remedies, and The Nine: Inside the Secret World of the Supreme Court by Jeffrey Toobin.
