Kudos to Jersey’s Scottie Scheffler, 25, who built a comfortable lead to ward off Rory McIlroy’s incredible final round, and win the Masters. The world’s top-ranked golfer is on a spectacular run, winning four times in his last six starts. He won the coveted green jacket and a cool $2.7 million. Although Scheffler’s excellence took the drama out of the event, defending champ Collin Morikawa and McIlroy, playing partners, provided thrills at 18, each draining a long bunker shot for birdie. To further illustrate Scheffler’s accomplishment, only eleven golfers finished at even par or better. Brooks Koepka, Jordan Spieth and Bryson DeChambeau didn’t make the cut. Former champs Tigers Woods finished plus-13, Adam Scott plus-14.
I don’t recall having ever heard the following, to which a caption at youtube alerted me. From Wiki, edited by yours truly: Eduard Bloch was the physician of Hitler’s family for many years. When Hitler’s mother was dying of breast cancer, Bloch billed the family at a reduced cost and sometimes refused to bill at all. This had a profound effect on Adolf. When the Nazis annexed Austria in 1938, Hitler awarded Bloch, a Jew, special protection and personally intervened to ensure his safety. Following Kristallnacht and the escalation of anti-Semitism in Germany, Hitler allowed Bloch to emigrate to the USA, where he remained until his death at 73 in 1945… Life never ceases to fascinate.
Here’s a surprising headline from foxnews.com: “Al Sharpton goes off on ‘limousine liberals,’ DC ‘elites’ ignoring crime: They ‘don’t live in the real world’.” Unfortunately, I doubt he would support the return of the best measure ever applied to crime, Stop and Frisk.

I anticipated a road trip today for the floating book shop, but lo and behold the prime parking spot was available as I approached the car. Since the alternate side regulation will be suspended Thursday and Friday, I’m locked in for the week. My thanks to the kind folks who donated, swapped and bought books on this serene day. Here’s what sold: two kids books, The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Back Pain: Understand the Causes and Explore Your Options for Relief by Jason Highsmith and Jovanka Milivojevic — in Russian; Die in Plain Sight by Elizabeth Lowell; a Reader’s Digest collection of four condensed novels; and Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption by Laura Hillenbrand.
