Storms, Natural & Man-made

Mother Nature never ceases to fascinate. A severe storm in Africa’s Sahara desert has sent a huge plume of dust toward the southern U.S. states. It has already hit the Caribbean, where drivers complained about poor visibility. Those with breathing issues may have a tough time. Here’s a pic:

As ludicrous a candidate as Joe Biden is, he has a good chance of winning the November election. The onslaughts against President Trump by academia and the mainstream media will continue, and mail-in voting is a huge concern. I hope stats are kept on the percentage each man draws from those.

Seems like karma is biting Jimmy Kimmel’s butt. Love it.

The epic cultural battle underway is not restricted to the USA. Here’s an excerpt from an article at foxnews.com about pro soccer in the UK: “The Premier League resumed last week and clubs took the initiative to replace player names on the back of shirts with Black Lives Matter. Players, coaches and match officials have taken a knee for about 10 seconds before kickoff in the first 12 matches since the resumption.” And here’s a pic of someone’s response, flown over a recent match:

Team management immediately decried it as racist. In itself, I don’t believe it is, although I have no idea what the views are of those who flew the banner. Black Lives Matter should not be above criticism. This was a good way to respond. Let’s hope the right doesn’t resort to violence to fight back.

Things have returned to normal at Stop n Shop. It’s a quick in and out in the early AM. I’ve restricted my shopping to that venue. I stopped doing fill-ins at CVS because the guys at the door are cold and because the plastic wall before the registers is so depressing. I am so appreciative of Waj’s food truck, where one can still walk up and place an order without hassle. Here’s a pic of something else that brings my head down:

From what I hear, the current death rate from Corona has fallen to about one-quarter of one-percent. For those without underlying conditions, it’s time to stop living in fear.

My thanks to Wolf, who bought three books in Russian and How to Think like Sigmund Freud by Daniel Smith, and to the young man who purchased Bushido: The Soul of Japan and The Code of the Samurai, both by Inazo Nitobe; and to the gentleman who did a swap of books in Russian. The floating book shop had more company today, as the local Glamorous Beauty Shop opened its doors for the first time in months. Nina, who I think of as Big Red because she’s built like an Olympian, greeted me with a “Hello, dear.” Speaking of which, I resubmitted the novella I will publish shortly. The proof copy is being printed. If I haven’t done anything stupid, it should be ready for sale sometime next week. Both Nina and Wolf are mentioned in it.
