RIP Frederic Forrest, 86. Born in Texas, he attended three colleges and served six years in the Army before moving to New York to study acting. He began by doing off-Broadway, then moved to the west coast. There are 87 titles under his name at IMDb, career spanning 1966–2006. He had roles in several significant films: The Conversation (1974), The Missouri Breaks (1976), Apocalypse Now (1979), and The Rose (1979), for which he received a supporting actor Oscar nomination. He played several historical figures: the presidential assassin in Ruby and Oswald (1978), the author in both Hammett (1982) and Citizen Cohn (1992). He was outstanding as the vicious, vengeful Blue Duck in the Lonesome Dove miniseries (1989). He did one-shots on Dark Shadows, N.Y.P.D., Mrs. Columbo and Murphy Brown. And he did five episodes of 21 Jump Street, six of Die Kinder and six of the Quo Vadis miniseries. His two marriages lasted three years each. The second was to Marilu Henner. Well done, Sir. Thank You. Photo from Google Images:

This may be the most amusing headline of the day, from nypost.com: “Harvard behavior scientist who studied honesty accused of fabricating data: report.”

I ignored the forecast today and set up the full book shop. I packed up an hour early when dark clouds moved in. Following the pattern of the past few days, it has yet to rain more than four hours later. My thanks to the two women who bought four books in Russian between them, and to the sweet elderly woman who did a swap and buy of said; and to the young man who bought Simplify Your Life: Slow Down and Enjoy the Things That Really Matter by Elaine St. James, Wholeness Lies Within: Sixteen Natural Paths Toward Spirituality by Terence Duniho, Trait Secrets: Winning Together When You DON’T Think Alike by Judith A. Piani and Hedy Bookin-Weiner, Option B: Facing Adversity, Building Resilience, and Finding Joy by Sheryl Sandberg & Adam Grant, and this, photo from GI:
