Believe it when I see it. Headline from foxnews.com: “San Francisco might not be ‘liberal’ city anymore as progressive mayoral candidate is underdog, says LA Times.”
RIP NFL RB Mercury Morris, 77, cause of death yet to be revealed. Born in Pittsburgh, he was an All-American at West Texas St. in 1967-’68. In three years he averaged 6.3 YPG and had 34 TDs rushing and six receiving. The Dolphins selected him in the third round of the ’69 draft. He played all but one of his eight seasons with them, at first serving as a kick returner and backup to Jim Kiick. He became the starter in ’73 but began suffering injuries to his neck and knee. He spent his last season with the Chargers. He was a member of Miami’s back-to-back Super Bowl champions, capping the ’72 and ’73 seasons. Here are individual accomplishments: three-time Pro Bowl selection (1971–1973), NFL rushing touchdowns leader (1972), NFL rushing yards per attempt leader (1973), NFL kickoff return yards leader (1969). He has a place in the Dolphins Walk of Fame. In 1982 he was busted for cocaine trafficking and spent three-and-a-half years in prison. He then became a motivational speaker. He was a father of six. The Anti-Inflation Book Shop was inundated with new titles on this beautiful day. My thanks to the young woman who pulled up in her sporty car and delivered 22 books, and to the one who bought 3D art; and to the one who returned for what she purchased yesterday and selected another book on grammar; and to Herbie, who not only chose What You Wish For and How to Walk Away, both by Katherine Center, and a work of historical fiction whose title escapes me, but lugged two bags home for me. I am blessed.
