Sad headline from nypost.com: “CUNY student petitions to cancel Emmett Till opera written by white playwright.” Should white authors never include black characters in their work?… And this: “NYC thieves captured on video taking bulletproof vests meant for Ukraine.”
Here’s a gem from the column of NY Post sports media critic Phil Mushnick: “Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson recently complained that there’s still systemic racism in the NFL directed at black QBs. That doesn’t explain the land rush to sign Deshaun Watson after he beat criminal charges for nine sexual assaults. At last count, 22 civil suits have been filed against him by female accusers.” He has signed a five-year, $230,000,000 contract with the Cleveland Browns, including a $45,000,000 signing bonus. Every country should be so racist.
LOL at this newsmax.com headline: “GOP Registering Voters Outside Gas Stations.”
RIP MLB pitcher/PGA golfer Ralph Terry, 86. Born in Oklahoma, he was signed by the Yankees, traded to Kansas City, and reacquired by the Bombers. His career began to rise in 1960, when he won ten games. That year ended on a sour note, as he surrendered Bill Mazeroski’s iconic walk-off home run in the World Series. He was not deterred, going 16–3 in ’61 and enjoying his first championship. He went 23–12 in ’62, earning his only All-Star nod, leading the AL in wins and becoming the World Series MVP, going 2–1 against the Giants, winning Game Seven. He won 17 games in ’63 but saw limited action vs. the victorious Dodgers in the big show. Likewise in ’64 vs. the champion Cardinals, a season in which he won only seven games. He was then traded to the Indians, for whom he won eleven games in ’65. He finished out with stints with the A’s and Mets, retiring in ’67. Overall, he was 107–99, ERA 3.62. He had 20 shutouts. He was 2–3 in World Series play. Remarkably, he cracked the PGA tour, playing in four events in ‘81-’82. In ’86 he began playing on the Senior Tour. His best finish was a tie for tenth in ’89. He was also an insurance agent. Well done, sir.
Not much action at the floating book shop today. My thanks to the gentleman who bought two fantasy novels in Russian. All was not lost. The prime parking spot was available when I got home. I won’t have to move the car until quittin’ time Thursday.
