This UK resident may have the solution — sail above it all. Photo by David Burr/Alamy Live News/, posted at theguardian.com:

Where does it end? Headline from nypost.com: “NYC parents having meltdown over $14 ice cream cones: ‘It’s out of control’.” Don’t fret — Quid Pro Joe will lick it.

Is the Washington Post a victim of the digital age or its woke policies or both? Excerpt from an NYP article by Charles Gasparino: “Last year, the paper lost an estimated $70 to $100 million; its circulation is down 50% since 2020.” Even mega-rich owner Jeff Bezos is concerned.

RIP basketball Hall of Fame SF Chet Walker, 84. Born in Mississippi, he grew up in Benton Harbor, Michigan. A graduate of Bradley University, he led the Braves to the NIT Championship in ’60, earning the nickname Chet the Jet for his speed and agility. He was All-American in ’61 & ’62, second team in ’60. The school retired his #31. He was selected in the second round of the 1962 NBA draft by the Syracuse Nationals, the twelfth pick overall. The team relocated to Philadelphia in ’63. He was a key member of the ’67 championship squad. He played for the franchise until ’69, then joined the Bulls. In 13 pro seasons he averaged 18.2 PPG and 7.1 RPG. He was a seven-time All-Star. After his playing days, he was involved in the production of two TV movies and one theatrical release. In 1990 he shared an Emmy with five others for Outstanding Children’s Program, A Mother’s Courage: The Mary Thomas Story, which focused on NBA great Isaiah Thomas’ early life in Chicago. Walker also made a guest appearance on The White Shadow, and he wrote Long Time Coming: A Black Athlete’s Coming-Of-Age in America, assisted by Chris Messenger. Awesome, Sir. Is this reason for optimism? From NYP: “The Saudi school system is finally embracing the West.” Let other Muslim nations take note.

This may be the most amusing headline of the day. From NYP: “I quit my boring 9-to-5 to become a professional sex toy tester.” If any tester is looking for an assistant, I’ll work cheap.

The forecast was on the money, the rain moving out by 11AM, enabling the Anti-Inflation Book shop to get in a full session. Unfortunately, there was very little action. My thanks to the woman who bought I’ve Got My Eyes on You by Mary Higgins Clark, and to Steve, who purchased the audiobook of Pointing from the Grave: A True Story of Murder and DNA by Samantha Weinberg.
