Sunken Treasure
Great story by Ann W. Schmidt at foxnews.com, in my own words: Captain Jennifer Dowker is the owner of Nautical North Family Adventures, which runs shipwreck tours and scuba diving lessons. She found a little green bottle at the bottom of the Cheboygan River in Michigan — who doesn’t love to say “Shi-boy-gihn”? It had a signed message inside from 1926, legible despite the fact the bottle was two-thirds filled with water. She posted a pic on Facebook and soon received a call from the writer’s daughter, who was very emotional about it on Father’s Day. Handwriting analysis of the diary he left upon his death in 1995 proved it was him. The treasure will be kept in a shadowbox along with a 1926 photo of the man, and will remain on display at Dowker’s headquarters. Cheyboygan is almost 280 miles north of Detroit. The average temperature in winter is about zero. Cue the Police’s Message in a Bottle:
Will there be a funnier headline today than this one from nypost.com?: “Nick Cannon to have fourth baby in six months: ‘Why wear condoms?’” Why, indeed?… This one is politics in a nutshell: “Biden praises Harris for ‘great job’ on border, despite not visiting.” And she had to whisper in his ear when he faltered during an address yesterday. Only those who want to be fooled are fooled. They play to the marks as pro wrestlers did before promoters were forced to admit the match results were pre-arranged.
Here are words that are taboo at Brandeis University in Massachusetts:
Last night while channel surfing I came upon a PBS show devoted to mental illness I hoped would be interesting. Soon a person was talking racism. I bailed. I tried it again later and another person was talking about transgenders. Sheesh! I accept that liberals have won the social and political arguments and have gained the upper hand in the economic fight, but I strive to tune out their messages.
Another great cartoon from Branco:
Another gorgeous day and the floating book shop continues to do well, despite its diminishing stock of movies. My thanks to Dave, who donated a John Grisham novel and a Beatles pictorial, the latter of which I gave as thanks to a gentleman who has given me books and DVDs. My thanks also to the woman who delivered three books, and to stellar porter Robert, who brought a bunch of kids books; and to the kind folks who combined to buy nine books in Russian; and to young Gareth, who purchased four works of non-fiction on business matters and The Last Assassin by Barry Eisler; and to the woman who took home Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance by Barack Obama.
