Super & Not

Super-model Emily Ratajkowski and friend, photo from nypost.com:

The son of the nation’s first climate activist doing what he does, headline from nypost.com: “Flee deal: Crestfallen Hunter Biden flies home in private jet with cameras in tow after his sweetheart plea deal shockingly collapses.” Poor kid.

Attention sci-fi and horror writers, a Ripley’s Believe It or Not NYP headline about a Japanese male: “Man’s best friend: Man who spent $20K to transform himself into border collie steps out for first-ever walk in public.” If that doesn’t give you the creeps, nothing will. Here’s a pic courtesy of Google Images. At least the surgeons did a good job.

From an NYP article by Asia Grace, another modern term: “Being ‘phubbed’ or ‘phubbing’ — combines ‘phone’ and ‘snub.’ It’s the all too common act of ignoring a romantic partner while being glued to a cellular device.” I get the same treatment multiple times daily while selling stuff curbside.

Another plus in the AI controversy: “Brain power: Paralyzed NY man can move and feel again — thanks to AI ‘miracle’ surgery.”

RIP Robert Guillaume, 89. Born in St. Louis, his career spanned 1966–2019. There are 107 titles under his name at IMDb, but that doesn’t begin to tell his story. He co-starred in 50 episodes alone of Soap, for which he received an Emmy, and starred in 159 of the spinoff Benson, for which he received five nominations, winning in 1985. He also did 45 of Sports Night and narrated 39 of Happily Ever After: Fairy Tales for Every Child. He was the voice of Rafiki in The Lion King (1994). Throughout his long run he did guest shots on many popular prime time shows and in TV movies. Late in his career he participated in many video game productions. He also worked the stage in Chicago and L.A. and was nominated for a Tony as Best Actor in a Musical for the 1976 revival of Guys and Dolls. Married twice long term, he was a father of five. Well done, Sir. Thank you. Photo from GI:

Hey, kids, looking for a summer job? Headline from foxnews.com: “Residents fed up as prostitutes allegedly enlist kids to hand out business cards in sex market.” First thing I would ask: Are there any fringe benefits?

Wow! From FN: “Misdiagnoses lead to nearly 800K deaths, disabilities in US each year, study shows.” SMH.

Setting up the book shop was tough today, as the shade had not yet engulfed my spot on 86th Street near 25th Avenue. Once it did, conditions were fine. My thanks to the gentleman who overcompensated me for Spontaneous Happiness by Andrew Weil, MD, and to the elderly woman who bought Game Over by Fern Michaels and 204 Rosewood Lane by Debbie Macomber.
