Taxing Issues
Foxnews.com headline: “Fallen Jewish American World War II soldiers, POWs finally to be buried under Star of David.” What the heck took so long?
Michael Bloomberg is in the upper tier of political phonies, although it is getting awfully crowded at the top. Someone did the USA a service by making his stop n frisk comments public. I don’t even disagree with most of what he said. I just know that if it had been President Trump or any other Republican the mainstream media would be delirious, airing the comments non-stop. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. With Biden’s campaign in free fall, many hoped Bloomberg would ascend. Some label him a moderate, which is laugh out loud funny in the same way as referring to “Middle Class Joe” is.
I waited 25 minutes for a parking spot to open up at the viaduct at Avenue Y and E. 15th. I was almost happy none did, as all three sessions there netted zero sales. The day was not completely lost. I finished my taxes. What drudgery. I don’t have much income to report, only Social Security, bank interest, dividends, and book sales, the latter of which are paltry. In fact, all of it is. I have only a little left over each year after meeting expenses, and I’m fine with that. There’s nothing I would rather be doing than my literary efforts, at least nothing that isn’t x-rated. 75% of my money is in non-taxable accounts, in reserve for possible catastrophic illness or to finance assisted or senior living quarters. My return should not be difficult. If only…Turbo Tax should have an immediate option of choosing the standard deduction, which is way higher than what I itemize. That would save so much time and annoyance. Maybe it does and I just breezed by it. I guess I should simply be happy the ordeal is done for another year, the whole rigmarole with license and routing numbers and what all. I owe the Feds nothing and will be getting $63 from the state/city, which will be sent directly into my checking account. I wouldn’t have cared if the latter had been zero as well. I just don’t want to be hounded about any malfeasance. It cost me $115. I guess the convenience of not having to leave home makes the exasperation worth it.
There has also been progress on my re-publication of Exchanges. The second letter I sent to the P.O.Box provided by the publisher, WheelMan Press, was returned unopened, postmarked 1/20. In it, I’d said I would self-publish the book if new print copies were not made available by 3/1. The publisher’s last update at Twitter was in 2014. He had been in ill health a long time and used a wheelchair. He passed away a few years ago. Any info on him at Google goes back several years. Any articles on the firm are dated. It seems no one has replaced him or re-opened that house under a different title. I’ll take the risk. If someone threatens a lawsuit, I’ll have the book removed. The proof copy is on the way.
