The Fight vs. Evil

Last night episode four of Evil, CBS 10PM, was a major step up from the two others I’ve seen. At times there is no understanding humanity’s worst behavior. The closing scene of the female psychologist sobbing uncontrollably was powerful. Kudos to series creators Robert King & Michelle King, and to writers Davita Scarlett & Nialla LeBouef. Here are the stars, the investigating team, left to right: Aasif Mandvi, Mike Colter & Katja Herbers:

Mexico is large, so it may not be fair to say it’s a “Narco State,” but the following headline from foxnews.com lends credence to the label: “El Chapo’s son released after arrest in Mexico as security forces outgunned by cartel.” It seems the government has no recourse but to legalize drugs and trafficking. Would it win an all out war vs. the drug lords? Would the carnage be worth it? It might be better to surrender and move on to other issues.

Democrats are in full attack mode on one of their own candidates, Tulsi Gabbard, a Hawaii congresswoman and Hawaii Army National Guard major who served in combat in Iraq. They fear she will run a third-party candidacy in 2020, which might help President Trump the way Jill Stein, dubbed a “Russian asset” by Hillary, did in 2016. Gabbard has been called: “… a third-party candidate propped up by Trump and the Russians” by former President Obama aide David Plouffe on his Campaign HQ podcast. Others have echoed the thought. I am so discouraged by the ugly political climate. The only hope is that it’s restricted to the bubbles of NYC, DC and California, and that the rest of the country is not infected.

Andy Reid seems one of those coaches destined to come up just short of a championship. Still, criticizing him for running a QB sneak with MVP Patrick Mahomes is ludicrous. There is no safer play. Had there ever been a serious injury on one prior to last night? And right now it looks like the star will miss only three weeks. Heck, Deshaun Watson, Lamar Jackson and Kyler Murray frequently run the ball, often by design, and they are just as valuable to their teams as Mahomes is to his.

It wasn’t nearly as windy as yesterday, and the sun shining brightly on this crisp autumn day. My thanks to Wolf, who donated a bunch of CDs, and to the gentleman who donated Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game by Michael Lewis and The Big Fella: Babe Ruth and the World He Created by Jane Leavy, both of which were purchased by a burly baseball fan who also opted for two Madonna discs. Thank you, sir, and also to the middle age woman who bought Deathbed Wisdom of the Hasidic Masters: The Book of Departure and Caring for People at the End of Life by Rabbi Joel H Baron, Rabbi Sara Paasche-Orlow, et al.; and to the young woman who selected Calm in Chaos: Catholic Wisdom for Anxious Times by George William Rutler; and to the woman who went home with three books in Russian.
