The Species

I read about last night’s big moment at the Oscars. LOL and SMH at once. Naturally, predictably, at least two elites likened the behavior to Trump… So, has Sean Penn melted his Oscars yet? Maybe he’ll be appeased by the moment of silence that was conducted.

Interesting headline from nypost.com: “Trade off: Russian soldier allegedly surrenders tank for $10K, Ukrainian citizenship.” Another of Vlad’s many problems is that his Army is made up largely of draftees. It lacks the professionalism of U.S. armed forces. His generals often have to take a hands on approach rather than delegate duties. That has led to the death of seven of them… Another piece states that Russia’s “population dropped by 1 million in 2021.” Wow!

Get the MIGs to Ukraine. Sure, the enemy has superior air power and may quickly shoot them down, but the Ukrainians are proving adept despite their disadvantages. Give them a shot.

Shocking stats from an NYP editorial, whittled down by yours truly: According to the National Institutes of Health, in 2020, “99,017 people died of alcohol-related deaths (including fatalities from accidents and liver disease). 74,408 of the dead were aged 16 to 64. That same year, 74,075 people under 65 died of COVID.” Geez.

Unsurprising headline from foxnews.com: “ABC, CBS, NBC ignore Hunter Biden scandals, haven’t mentioned his name in 259 days, study says.” “Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.”

Back door bribes to voters may be on the way, headline from foxbusiness.com: “PUMP PLANS: Democrats propose bills to send gas payments to Americans.”

Senile Old Man Winter reappeared today. With an icy wind whipping through my usual book nook, I decided to head to my more hospitable alternate site. There was ample sunshine to take a lot of the bite out the January-like day. Conditions were far from ideal but it was still better than staying home. I closed shop a bit early, leery of overdoing it. My thanks to Boris, who delivered a dozen or so books, most in English, and a banana; and to the couple who bought a hardcover in Russian and Deception Point by Dan Brown; and to the woman who purchased Killing the SS by Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard. Will there someday be a Killing Putin?
