Interesting development on the left coast, headline from nypost.com: “Fed-up San Francisco businesses vow to stop paying taxes over homeless problem.” Paraphrase: “Taxation with poor representation is tyranny.”

From an article by Caroline Thayer at foxnews.com, edited by yours truly: Mickey Dolenz, last surviving member of the Monkees, has filed a civil motion against the Department of Justice, citing the Freedom of Information Act. The group was investigated twice by the FBI, once for alleged anti-Vietnam war activities in 1967 and another for which any information has been completely redacted. Dolenz’s motive is unclear. Perhaps he wants to include tidbits in a book or film.

Oh, those kids, headline from FN: “‘Weird Al’ Yankovic and Madonna make out in trailer for upcoming biopic.”

RIP Mikhail Gorbachev, 91, former Soviet leader who oversaw the end of Cold War. I’m not sure how history will view him, but he was there when the world had such hopes, now dashed by Vlad.

My thanks to the woman who bought five titles in Spanish, including 23 Minutos en El Infierno by Bill Wiese, the only sales of today’s session of the floating book shop. Here’s an excerpt of a naysayer’s Amazon one-star review of that alleged work of non-fiction: “…One night, while sleeping, he was transported to hell. There God showed him hell in all its horror and terror. He was thrown into a barred cell, he was abused by demons, he was shown lakes of fire, and he saw people suffering torment. After a brief visit with Jesus, he was transported back to earth in order to tell people that Jesus is returning soon…” Remarkably, despite a ton of such negative reviews — at least 60 — the book’s overall rating is 4.6 on a scale of five, testimony to people’s need to believe. 2592 have rendered an opinion so far. I doubt I would believe a word of it, but I don’t have a problem with those who do.
