They, Them
From a nypost.com article by Becky Pemberton, originally published in The Sun, edited by yours truly: In the east Africa country of Malawi, Tusayiwe Mkhondya was a homeless single mom at 18. She soon opened an orphanage. Now 23, she is mom to 34 kids, ages five months to 16. Awesome, madam. Photo from Google Images:
From an NYP article by Alex Mitchell, snippet of life in NYC, edited by YT: Median rent for a Manhattan apartment has surpassed $4000 per month for the first time. Recently, folks lined up to view an East Village one-bedroom, third-floor walk-up listed for $2,337.39. The wait was 75 minutes. At least it’s beautiful. Photo from NYP:
Laugh or cry NYP headline: “Shoplifter who even woke DA Bragg wanted locked up let go after 122nd arrest — thanks to bail laws.” Maybe #123 will convince authorities he’s a career criminal who should be behind bars.
Terrific opening line from a John Stossel article at NYP, which he gleaned from a video at The Babylon Bee: “A woman tells the cop who stopped her in a carpool lane she’s allowed to drive there because her pronouns are ‘they’ and them.’”
RIP NFL DT Tony Siragusa, 55, member of the Baltimore Ravens Super Bowl XXXV champions. Cause of death is yet to revealed. In high school he was the Jersey state wrestling champion, career record 97–1. Having suffered a major knee injury in spring practice at Pitt before his senior season, he went undrafted. That did not stop him. He spent the first part of his NFL career with the Colts, ‘90-’96. He retired in 2001. From 2003-’15, he was a sideline reporter during Fox broadcasts, known for his irreverence. He also hosted the home renovation program Man Caves on the DIY Network, and appeared in one film, 25th Hour, four episodes of The Sopranos, and one of Cubed. He is survived by his wife and three kids. He was larger than life. Photo from GI:

This sounds infinitely superior to any showboat gun law pols enact. Headline from FN: “Artificial intelligence technology can secure sites by scanning major venues for weapons.” According to the accompanying article by Molly Line, “Massachusetts based Evolv has used the technology to scan roughly 300 million people across the country since the system went live in 2019.” Why isn’t everywhere? It sounds like a better investment option than alternative energy methods.
Love it when a forecast for rain is wrong. The floating book shop was not hard work today, as the temperature remains cool. My thanks to the gentleman who bought The Jungle by Upton Sinclair, and to Movie Buff, who purchased The Fugitive by Roy Huggins and Jeb Stuart, a novelization of the screenplay for the 1993 film; and to The Quiet Man, who took home four kids DVDs and seven paperback works of non-fiction on WWII; and to Alice and Robert, who donated a few books each.
