Thin & Thick Skins

Donald Trump was blasted by the mainstream media for being unpresidential. I haven’t heard of anyone but conservative talk show hosts call Quid Pro Joe on his snarkiness. He called NBC’s Lester Holt, of all people, a “wise guy” for asking a question about inflation. Apparently, Biden doesn’t know Holt did all he could to get him elected. Holt is not a journalist but a partisan Democrat. In the same vein, newly-elected NYC mayor Eric Adams has already played the race card, decrying criticism of him by reporters, most of whom are white. He should have had the wherewithal to say he’d inherited the violence plaguing the city and was working on it. The fact that he didn’t says a lot.

If you’re waiting for the mainstream media to say even a single word about the Durham report that implicates Hillary in the Trump-Russia hoax, it is in vain.

Maybe the truckers would gain the respect of leftists and the mainstream media if they took to burning and looting instead of demonstrating peacefully.

Headline from foxnews.com: “Teachers get green light to turn OFF CNN broadcasts in their classrooms.” I wonder what the reaction is in the teachers’ cafeterias and lounges in those Pennsylvania schools. Are fists flying?

RIP libertarian pundit and satirist P.J. O’Rourke, 74, who succumbed to lung cancer. Born in Toledo, he received a Master of Arts in English at Johns Hopkins University. His articles appeared in tons of magazines. He was a frequent guest on talk shows. He published 16 books, including three NY Times Best Sellers. Here are some of his thoughts, gleaned from brainyquote.com:
“There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences.”
“Always read something that will make you look good if you die in the middle of it.”
“Giving money and power to government is like giving whiskey and car keys to teenage boys.”
“The Democrats are the party that says government will make you smarter, taller, richer, and remove the crabgrass on your lawn. The Republicans are the party that says government doesn’t work and then they get elected and prove it.”
“When buying and selling are controlled by legislation, the first things to be bought and sold are legislators.”
“If you think health care is expensive now, just wait ’til it’s free.”
“The good news is that, according to the Obama administration, the rich will pay for everything. The bad news is that, according to the Obama administration, you’re rich.”
“There are a number of mechanical devices which increase sexual arousal, particularly in women. Chief among these is the Mercedes-Benz 380SL convertible.”
“Hubris is one of the great renewable resources.”
“If government were a product, selling it would be illegal.”
“The C student starts a restaurant. The A student writes restaurant reviews.”
“Russians not only vehemently despise blacks, they believe Africa begins at the Ukraine border.”
“The Bible is very clear about one thing: Using politics to create fairness is a sin.”

Thank you, sir.

Not much action at today’s session of the floating book shop. At least the temperature moderated, allowing me to spend the entire session out of the car, chatting with people. My thanks to Cabbie, who did a swap and buy of paperback thrillers, and to the four ladies who donated ten books between them.
