This Is It!

This is finally it! Headline from nypost.com: “Spaceship of ‘non-human origin’ spotted near US-Mexico border: UFO expert.” Is it carrying illegal aliens? Photo from Google Images:

Sad news, headline from NYP: “Navy SEAL deserter Daniel Swift killed while fighting in Ukraine.” He is the sixth Yank to die there. RIP, Sir.

Also from NYP: “‘Disaster’: Russia has ‘significantly’ more than 100K casualties in Ukraine: Milley.” Pity the parents of those who have given their lives to Vlad’s ego.

NYP: “Dwindling numbers: NYC’s workforce has shrunk by 300,000 since start of pandemic.”

From an NYP article by Michael Kaplan: “On January 31, adults in the Canadian province of British Columbia will not be subject to criminal charges for personal-use possession of opioids (including heroin and fentanyl), cocaine, methamphetamine and MDMA (Molly or Ecstasy).” Although I do not use drugs, I believe this is better than the resources used, wasted, to keep people from using, but there will be unintended consequences, probably an uptick in deaths.

Interesting headline from newsmax.com: “WSJ: Many Chinese-built Infrastructure Projects Failing Worldwide.”

Last night, as usual, I concluded my web activities by watching photo arrays at youtube. One shot was astonishing. I don’t recall having heard this story. Here are excerpts from Wiki about the incident, edited by yours truly: During a British Airways flight in 1990, an improperly installed windscreen panel separated from its frame, causing the captain to be sucked out of the aircraft. He was held in place by his feet for twenty minutes until the first officer landed the jet. A male flight attendant happened to enter the cockpit at the crucial moment, johnny on the spot, holding on to until tiring, when two other men assumed the task. The captain was presumed dead. Miraculously, he survived, suffering frostbite, bruising, shock and fractures to his right arm, left thumb and right wrist. Five months later, Captain Tim Lancaster was flying again. He retired on his 65th birthday in 2015. Photo from GI:

As expected, all the visits at classmates.com — at least 30 — announced in my email account led to zero book sales. I try to pretend it doesn’t bother me.

Government competency in a nutshell, headline from foxnews.com: “NAME DROP: Federal government’s ‘No Fly’ list leaked after being found on unsecured server.”

Another win for the good guys, headline from FN: “Alleged Chicago CTA train robber shot by concealed carry holder.”

There was none of the sunshine — zero — predicted, but still rather mild for January, so the floating book shop was a go. My thanks to the gentleman who bought two hardcovers in Russian, and to the one who purchased Moonglow by Michael Chabon.
