Here are a few new dating terms, from an article at foxnews.com: “Caspering” implies a friendly form of ghosting by giving your match some warning before doing a disappearing act… “Fleabagging” refers to those who consistently pick the wrong men… “Glamboozled” — stood up… “Yellow Card” gives your partner a warning, just like in soccer… “Exoskeleting” — a partner’s skeletons coming out of the closet… “Cause-Playing” refers to an ex who messages you out of the blue looking for a favor. I’ll never keep up.

And here’s a headline from FN: “Obamas pay $11.75M for Martha’s Vineyard home on nearly 30 acres.” What a great place for a homeless shelter.

Here’s a fun item from the world of science, also at FN: An electric eel named Miguel Wattson is shocking visitors at the Tennessee Aquarium by using its blips of electricity to power Christmas lights. A system connected to its tank allows the shocks to power strands on a nearby tree, resulting in a rapid succession of blinks. Feliz Navidad, Miguelito. Here’s a pic:

Rich Lowry’s op-ed piece at nypost.com bears this headline: “Falling births and rising deaths: two signs of an unseen American crisis.” There’s a discouraging nugget inside the article as well: “… midlife mortality from drug overdoses has increased almost 400% over the past 20 years…” Liver disease and suicide also contribute to the downside.

Here’s an amusing headline from NYP: “Birth control pill shrinks part of brain that controls sex drive.” There’s gotta be a punchline for that.

Since I hadn’t set up shop at my usual nook for a week, I was determined to do so today. It was an unpleasant stay, despite abundant sunshine. As usual the wind was fierce on that corner. My thanks to the young man who delivered a woman’s books donation, all non-fiction; and to the Quiet Man, who bought A Cedar Cove Christmas by Debbie Macomber and two DVDs; and to Ira, who purchased Gustav Vigeland’s Sculpture Park and Museum in Oslo by Tone Wikborg. I was clueless about it until recently. According to Wiki, the artist was born in 1869 as Adolf Gustav Thorsen. He adopted his subsequent name from the area where his grandparents lived. In addition to sculpture, he designed the medal given to recipients of the Nobel Peace Prize. Some critics compare his work to Nazi art. He passed away in 1943. The sculptures are all naked because Vigeland didn’t want clothing to date them. Here’s is Dancing Young Woman:
