Scary prospect but always be prepared. Headline from nypost.com: “Europe preps for WWIII as secret docs reveal plans for 800K troops in case Russia invades NATO.”
Kudos to Portia de Rossi and Ellen DeGeneres for putting their money where their mouths are and leaving the USA after Trump’s election. They’re settling in southwest England, two hours from London.
Among today’s celebrations, it’s World Philosophy Day. Professor Wagstaff weighs in, Horsefeathers (1932), photo from Google Images:
This may be the most amusing headline of the day, from foxnews.com: “White House confronted on friendly reception of ‘existential threat’ Trump: ‘We are now in a different place’.” Fortunately.
RIP actress Toiann (born Caryn) Matchinga, 82. At first I was hesitant to include her in the blog, as I’m unfamiliar with her work, but that fabulous name pricked my conscience, and additional info in an obit at hollywoodreporter.com made it a no-brainer. Born in Ohio, she received an acting and playwright scholarship to Carnegie Mellon, then moved to New York. There are “only” 18 titles under her name at IMDb, screen career spanning 1966–1997, last appearance, after a hiatus of 21 years, in Costa Gavras’ Mad City. On TV she did guest shots on Death Valley Days, The Odd Couple, The Wild Wild West, The Flying Nun and The Big Valley to name five series. On the big screen she appeared in Madigan (1967), Up the Sandbox (1972) and Raid on Entebbe (1976). She also worked as a ghostwriter for MGM, NBC and Paramount Pictures, and wrote an erotic novel, The Girl, published in 2012, available as an ebook at Amazon. She was married from 1976 until her beloved’s passing in 2004. She was a mom of one. Well done, Madam. Photos from GI:
Here’s an amusing tidbit from 25 Yet-To-Be Solved Mysteries That We Are Still Waiting on Answers To by EBW Curation Editor as msm.com, edited by yours truly: Chicago TV: “During a ‘Dr. Who’ rerun in 1987 somebody dressed as Max Headroom hijacked the TV signal for a minute and a half during which he exposed his butt, got spanked by a woman, and mocked Coca-Cola. The FCC has been investigating for years. Nobody has been charged.” Fortunately, there are tons of characters in this world who provide amusement. Photo from GI:
I spent another half-hour or so working with AI and came up empty. I would like to create a nicer montage of my books than the ones I’ve shot, and a book cover if I ever have enough pages to put By the Numbers into print.
The Anti-Inflation Book Shop was rained out. At least it’s not snow. I’m not posting any pics of the white stuff that are all over the web today. I don’t mind snow on Christmas Eve and I hope ski areas get plenty, but may it always be above freezing during precipitation in NYC.
