This world is so damn fascinating.

From a nypost.com article by Jane Herz, in my own words: On 8/2 Chris Solarz swam around Staten Island, 36 miles in 14:25, breaking a record set in July by six minutes. He has run 50 marathons. He walks 50 blocks to his pension fund consultant job in Manhattan and runs home after work. Kudos, Sir. Photo from Google Images:

From NYP: “Hey, Congress: End outrages like $3.3 billion for furniture instead of indulging in palace intrigue.” Amen.

NYP headline: “Another green failure: Global citizens ruin our local park to ‘save the planet’.” Excerpts from the accompanying article by Nicole Gelinas: “As Upper West Side Councilwoman Gale Brewer observes, ‘12-acres of public greenspace will be unavailable to New Yorkers until April 2024 or later, all to accommodate a one-day event.’” “‘The heavy equipment used to put on the concert and the foot traffic it attracted caused extensive damage,’ with the Central Park Conservancy, which manages the park, pronouncing itself ‘very disappointed’ that a third of the lawn is, in the group’s words, ‘fully destroyed.’” “Rebuilding the lawn, though, will require more intensive fossil-fuel activity, including more truck trips through the park.” How virtuous they are.

Opening line from an NYP editorial: “Democrats just told the country that their desire for bipartisanship is just a talking point by voting en masse to oust Rep. Kevin McCarthy as speaker after ‘he brought a truly bipartisan temporary funding bill to the floor…’” And some Republicans fall for it every time. Remember the spending cuts that were supposed to come when Bush Sr. caved on raising taxes? Then again, if there’s no bipartisanship, explain $30+ trillion in debt/deficit.

From foxnews.com: “Pennsylvania school district reverses trans bathroom policy weeks after student walkout.” Returned to birth assignation. Kudos, kids.

Now it’s okay. From FN: “Biden admin flips on ‘bigoted’ border wall after long history of Trump attacks.” Of course, it may simply be an election promise that will never pan out. It’s what politicians do.

From FN, cock-adoodle-do: “Price for key ingredient in everyday dinners hits record high under Biden admin.”

Fighting back in Portugal, from FN: “Disgusted drivers had enough, take situation in own hands after activists block highway.”

Last night in London five young climate zealots interrupted a performance of Le Mis. The audience was not happy. Photo from GI:

Kudos to cartoonist Michael Ramirez:

Great return for the floating book shop on this gorgeous day. My thanks to those who bought, donated and swapped. Gonzo selected ten novels, nine hardcovers. Andu chose the massive Healing Unlimited by Boardroom Classics; my Constant Benefactress was thrilled with Travels with George: In Search of Washington and His Legacy by Nathaniel Philbrick; the Cook Book Lady took home two by Mario Batali and It’s All American Food: The Best Recipes for More Than 400 New American Classics by David Rosengarten; and young Gareth again opted for business texts — Foundation of Predictive Analysis by James Wu and Stephen Coggeshall, and Principles Of Finance — -FIN 3000 (Baruch Edition). I am blessed.
